“Visions of the Invisible” Showcased at Data-Driven Skies Workshop by WWF-Pakistan

Our talented students from the Department of Design and Interiors took center stage at the "Data-Driven Skies: Strengthening Air Quality Standards and Policy Frameworks in Faisalabad" workshop. Organized by WWF-Pakistan and the University of the Punjab, and funded by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago - EPIC, the event aimed to bridge the gap between technical air quality data and policy action. While technical sessions focused on $PM_{2.5}$ monitoring and spatiotemporal trends, our students provided the "human dimension" to the crisis through a specialized interactive gallery titled "Visions of the Invisible."

Under the leadership of Ms. Fizah Noor, eight dedicated students—four from Bachelor of Graphic Design (BGD) and four from Bachelor of Interior Design (BID)—represented The University of Faisalabad.

Highlights of the Exhibition

The gallery space was transformed into a powerful visual narrative where students displayed posters and works reflecting the air pollution crisis. Key highlights included:

1. Diverse Themes: Students visualized the heavy toll of pollution on community health, the stark contrast between a smog-filled and a breathable Faisalabad, and the daily reality of navigating city emissions.

2. Interactive Engagement: The exhibition received immense participation from attendees, including stakeholders from government agencies (EPCCD), academia, and civil society.

3. Conceptual Advocacy: Students actively engaged with policymakers, describing the concepts behind their work and using creative expression to sensitize the audience to the social impacts of the air crisis.

The Tile Painting Workshop was conducted for first-semester students of the Creative Arts program as a hands-on learning activity designed to introduce them to surface design, color exploration, and abstract visual expression. During the workshop, students worked individually on 1×1 foot tiles, creating abstract shapes and forms to explore the principles of balance, rhythm, and harmony through thoughtful use of color and composition.

The primary objective of the workshop was not only to enhance students’ practical and artistic skills, but also to foster creative thinking and collaborative art-making. Each tile was conceived as part of a larger collective artwork, with the intention that the completed pieces will be permanently installed within the university premises. This installation will stand as a visual representation of student creativity, ownership of space, and the transformative role of art in enriching public environments across the campus.

Overall, the Tile Painting Workshop provided first-year students with a valuable opportunity to translate abstract concepts into tangible artworks, while contributing meaningfully to the visual and cultural identity of the university.

A day filled with colors, creativity, and inspiration

The Canvas Painting Workshop, conducted by Miss Wadiyat Aizdy and Miss Kaiynat Fatima and organized by the Art & Design Society, brought together students from all departments to experience the joy of art. From learning basic techniques to expressing personal stories on canvas, every participant transformed a blank surface into a meaningful masterpiece.

The Department of Design and Interiors conducted a highly interactive Set Design Workshop, led by the renowned art director and visual artist Shadab Ur Rehman Malik. The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices, inspiring young creatives to pursue careers in art direction, set design, and visual storytelling.

The session, attended by students from the Interior Design (Saleem Campus) and Graphic Design (Amin Campus), provided valuable insights into the world of set design, concept development, and production management. Shadab shared his extensive experience working with top fashion brands, including Insignia, Republic by Omar Farooq, and Maria B, among others.

The workshop featured a detailed lecture on industry practices, followed by a Q&A session with guest speakers Ms. Maham (Fashion Stylist) and Mr. Zain (Filmmaker). The event was organized by Ms. Kaiynat Fatima under the Society of Arts and Design, aiming to promote awareness of the creative industry and equip students with practical skills.

The workshop successfully achieved its objectives by enhancing students' understanding of set design, introducing current industry trends, and encouraging creative thinking. The event concluded on a high note, reflecting the students' enthusiasm and Shadab’s invaluable guidance.

Aspiring postgraduate applicants are invited to take the next step in their academic journey by appearing in the Postgraduate Entry Test for Spring 2026 at The University of Faisalabad. Timely registration is required for consideration in PG programs.
