A vibrant event was held at Government High School Kosht on Wednesday October 30, 2024, to celebrate the final round of the zonal tournament literacy contest organized by District Education Office Upper Chitral. Students from both private and government schools from Lot Ower to Kushum participated in twelve different activities. The program was presided over by the esteemed teacher Mr. Noor ul Saba, and Mr. Adnan Zain Ul Abideen, Regional Manager of the National Bank of Pakistan graced the occasion, as the chief guest.

In his speech, Mr. Adnan Zain commended the students’ performances, expressing admiration for their skill and effort, noting that it would be challenging for the judges to decide on the runner-up position, as all participants performed exceptionally well. He advised students that winning is not the primary goal in such competitions; rather, their participation and the competitive spirit they display are most important.

Reflecting on the theme of the students' speeches, “Let’s Change Pakistan,” the chief guest emphasized the critical role of both students and teachers in the nation’s development. He highlighted that self-improvement, personal growth, and positive community engagement are essential factors for building the next generation. Additionally, Mr. Adnan Zain announced the Aba Ji (Ex MPA Zain Ul Abideen) High Achiever Scholarship, a one-time award of fifty thousand, thirty thousand, and twenty thousand rupees for the top three SSC (10th grade) graduates. This scholarship program, beginning next year with the 2024-2025 academic results, will be awarded to students attending schools within the Tehsil Municipal Administrative Area of Mulkow, from Lot Owir to Terich, with the possibility of expansion based on its success.

The chief guest also suggested establishing an Alumni Association for Government High School Kosht, bringing together graduates since the school's inception, many of whom currently hold prominent positions or have retired after long service in various sectors. Mr. Adnan further appealed to the Education Department and the District Education Office to consider constructing a multipurpose hall within the school premises to provide a venue for future co-curricular activities. Finally, he expressed his gratitude to the organizers for arranging such a productive event dedicated to the students' growth and development.

Time passes so quickly, however, we have failed to keep pace with it. We are lagging behind in every aspect of life. This write up was published in PAMIR TIMES back in November 2015. The write up highlighted the importance of internet and advocated for the extension of 3G services to the remote areas such as Chitral. But unfortunately, after a lapse of almost ten years, we are at the same juncture, complaining about the same dilemma, with no sign of its resolution in near future. Admissions are Open Exclusively for Girls in F.A/FSc.

The Brilliance School of Studies (BSS) kosht, being the only institution in the area, has been providing education up to BA/B.SC level both for girls and boys since its inception. Central to the idea of establishment of this institution was to provide affordable and quality education to the youth of Kosht and sorrounding areas in their doorstep ; who otherwise were compelled, either to migrate to lower Chitral, thus by incurring huge expenses or get admission in government Degree colleges in Upper Chitral, and take the pain of commuting between long distances on regular basis. The establishment of BSS Kosht considerably bridged that gap and provided relief to the parents and their Children. However, with the surge in Covid 19 - that like other sectors badly damaged the educational sector - compounded by the indifferent attitude of parents, the institution, unfortunately has been performing below the desired bench mark. Subsequent to this and also given the Socio- Cultural barriers and consequential demand for an exclusively female educational institution, as suggested by the elders of the area ; unlike the past, the management has decided to offer admission to girls only, from this time, onwards. This decision has been made, while taking into consideration the fact that, girls are more prone to discontinue their education after matriculation, due to the absence of girls college in the vicinity. One of the purposes of this decision is to make sure that, no girl is left behind, and all the desirous parents are able to educate their daughters in their doorsteps, without having to worry about sending them away.
The BSS Kosht family is determined to continue to improve the quality of education and provide the best learning and grooming environment, especially for girls, at par with the desired standards.

Civilized nations celebrate their fallen heroes to engrave their names on honor bright crest. It is their extraordinary feats and services, that owe huge gratitude, recognition, and remembrance.
The 6th of September marks the defense day in Pakistan, which is celebrated every year to commemorate the heroes of 1965 war. Decades ago, on this day, the armed forces of Pakistan successfully thwarted an Indian onslaught in the dead of night and helped push back the enemy in a successful defense that saw the entire nation back its troops during the war.
The youth of Morder, Upper Chitral commemorated the defense day in Morder, today. This year’s defense day holds greater significance for the people of the area, as recently, another brave son of the soil named Ayaz Ali Gohar (Shaheed) embraced Shahadat while defending the frontiers of the motherland in Bajaur Agency. The event was organized in the premises of Shaheed Ayat Ali Gohar’s final resting place. It is worth noting that, since 1971, Ayaz (Shaheed) has been the sixth hero from Morder, who has sacrificed his life for the country.
The deputy commissioner Upper Chitral, Mr. Hafiz Muhammad Ali graced the occasion as Chief guest while Mr. Adnan Zainul Abidin presided over the ceremony. Mr. Shah Adnan, Assistant Commissioner Upper Chitral, Essa Muhammad, DSP HQ police Upper Chitral, the Shuhaada families and other notable of the area also participated in the event. Mr. Naman Zain perfomed as the master of ceremony, while Mr. Mustansir Uddin, Welcomed the participants.
A wreath laying ritual formally commenced the ceremony with the echo of national anthem passionately sung by all the participants. The chief guest and president of the event laid flowers on the tomb of the martyred. While talking on the occasion, the chief guest appreciated the youth for organizing the event and said that the day remembers the sacrifices of the martyrs. He was of the opinion that, it was due to their persistent sacrifices and hard work which have enabled the nation to sleep peacefully, since the, Jawans of the Pakistan Army and other forces are continuously on guard to protect the frontiers from foreign aggression. He enumerated the few projects; he had approved to encourage the Shuhaadas of the area and their families; and also noted down other demands put forwarded by the people of the area for possible compliance in future.
Mr. Adnan Zain Ul Abidin thanked the chief guest and his entourage and said that their presence in the ceremony for the encouragement of Shuhaadas of Morder would long be remembered. In addition to that, he applauded the services of the heroes of the 1965 and all the martyrs, who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Moreover, he congratulated the youth of Morder for arranging such a momentous event. He also appreciated the management of Agha Khan School Morder for their presence and active participation in making the event successful. Besides, he expressed his pleasure on the participation of people from different walk of life ranging from Ulema, scholars, elders of the area, ladies, and Children etc.
Mr. Ghulam Mustafa, serving JCO, and Ali Sher Khan, retired SM Chitral Scout representing in service and retired army personnel highlighted the role of forces and appreciated the sacrifices of Shuhaadas. They suggested the youth to join the allied forces for the defense of the homeland and better livelihood prospects.
Mr. Noor Sabah, representing the Shuhaadas Families, highlighted the significance of the defense day and felt proud for being the scion of a person who among others sacrificed their lives for the protection of this motherland.
Maulana Asif Haidari, spoke about the importance of Jihad in Islam and honored the services of Pak Army and other allied forces for strengthening Pakistan as a nation. Mr. Ebad Ur Rehman, ITREB scholar while talking on the occasion reiterated the role of the government agencies, district administration, local police for the eradication of social ills from the society with particular focus on drug users and dealers in the society.
The ceremony was concluded with the recitation of Surah e Fathia for the upliftment of the Shuhaadas soul and with a strong determination to fight every ill, which jeopardize the sovereignty, prosperity, and prestige of the beloved Pakistan.

How on earth can any leader erase the myriad evils of this nation that run so deep that, it appears to have pervaded far and wide entangling each segment of the society. This scam of ghost faculty hiring program in Higher Education Commission is a recent case in example.

Ghost teachers in Pakistani rural schools are common enough but few know of our ghost mathematicians.
