Protest Note

We strongly condemn the shocking and shameful incident in Bihar where a Muslim student girl was subjected to the forcible removal of her hijab by the Chief Minister himself. This act is a direct assault on the dignity, privacy, and self-respect of a woman and a grave violation of her fundamental rights.

Hijab is a matter of personal choice and religious belief. Forcing a student to remove it amounts to harassment and humiliation, which goes against the Constitution of India that guarantees freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and the right to live with dignity.

It is extremely disturbing that the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, himself carried out this act against a student. This represents a blatant misuse of power and disgraces the highest constitutional office. When a Chief Minister himself disrespects a woman—especially a student—it sends a dangerous message and reflects a complete failure to uphold women’s dignity and minority rights.

Women’s dignity comes first. No authority is above the Constitution. Such actions are unacceptable and must stop immediately.
