سندھ طاس معاہدہ کیا تھا؟

سندھ طاس معاہدہ (Indus Waters Treaty)
ایک تاریخی معاہدہ تھا جو 1960ء میں پاکستان اور بھارت کے درمیان ہوا۔، اس معاہدے کا مقصد دریائے سندھ اور اس کے معاون دریاؤں کے پانی کی تقسیم کا تعین کرنا تھا، تاکہ دونوں ممالک پانی کے مسائل سے بچ سکیں۔

یہ معاہدہ عالمی بینک کی ثالثی میں 19 ستمبر 1960ء کو کراچی میں طے پایا، اور اس پر دستخط اُس وقت کے بھارتی وزیر اعظم جواہر لال نہرو اور پاکستان کے صدر ایوب خان نے کیے۔

معاہدے کی اہم شقیں:

1. مشرقی دریا (راوی، بیاس، ستلج) کا پانی بھارت کو دیا گیا۔

2. مغربی دریا (سندھ، جہلم، چناب) کا پانی پاکستان کو دیا گیا۔

3. بھارت کو مغربی دریاؤں سے کچھ مخصوص مقاصد (مثلاً بجلی پیدا کرنا، زراعت) کے لیے محدود مقدار میں پانی استعمال کرنے کی اجازت دی گئی، لیکن وہ ان دریاؤں کا بہاؤ نہیں روک سکتا۔

4. اگر دونوں ممالک میں پانی کے استعمال پر کوئی تنازع ہو تو عالمی ثالثی کے ذریعے اسے حل کیا جائے گا۔

یہ معاہدہ بمورخہ 23 اپریل 2025 کو ہندوستان کی طرف سے معطل کر دیا گیا ہے،
