The Department of Economics, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, proudly celebrates the inspiring journey of our alumnus Muhammad Ali Zafar, who represented Pakistan as a youth delegate at UNCCD COP17 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

🎓 Muhammad Ali Zafar completed both his BS Economics and M.Phil. Economics from the Department of Economics, IUB — and today, his journey has taken him from our classrooms to an important international platform addressing some of the world’s most pressing development challenges.

🌐 UNCCD COP17, held in Ulaanbaatar from 17–28 August 2026, brought together representatives from governments, international organizations, academia, civil society and youth from across the world to advance action on land restoration, drought resilience, water, food systems and sustainable development.

During this global gathering, our proud alumnus participated in international interactions, youth engagements and discussions related to climate action, sustainable development, land restoration and resilience. He also contributed as a speaker in a session on “Sustainable Green Practices – Driving Climate Action Through Everyday Solutions.”

🎓 Strengthening knowledge, confidence, and professional readiness at the Department of Economics, IUB

The Department of Economics, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, successfully conducted the Comprehensive Viva Voce for the graduating students of BS Economics (8th Semester) after the completion of final term examinations, under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Atif Nawaz, Chairman, Department of Economics.

The activity was coordinated by Dr. Mahnaz Muhammad Ali, Incharge BS Economics, who served as the focal person for the entire process. The viva panel included Dr. Abid Rashid Gill, Dr. Altaf Hussain, Dr. Mazhar Nadeem, and Dr. Rashid Sattar, who actively evaluated the students’ academic understanding, analytical abilities, communication skills, and overall professional readiness.

This Comprehensive Viva is an important academic quality assurance activity through which our students are given the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, critical thinking, and practical understanding they have developed throughout their degree program. Before entering the job market, such assessment helps ensure that our graduates are confident, competent, and prepared for real-world professional challenges.

On May 14, 2026, the Department of Economics, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, successfully organized a Mock Interview activity for the students of BS Economics 7th and 8th semester from IUB and GSCWU Bahawalpur.

This important initiative was arranged in line with the university’s commitment to outcome-based education under the guidance of the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, and the leadership of the Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Atif Nawaz. 🎉 Alhamdulillah! A wonderful learning experience at the Department of Economics, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur 🎉

On April 23, 2026, the Department of Economics successfully conducted the workshop “From Data to Decision: Practical SPSS Workshop for Researchers” in collaboration with iRASD.

The workshop received an encouraging response from faculty members belonging to different universities and various academic departments, along with PhD and MPhil scholars who joined both physically and online. The active participation of scholars and faculty made the session highly engaging, interactive, and enriching.

📊 The workshop provided practical exposure to SPSS and helped participants strengthen their understanding of data analysis, interpretation, and research application in an academic setting.
