Pakistan International Public School & College

Pakistan International Public School & College Official page of Pakistan International Public School & College (Abbottabad). The Girls College has F.A also.

Pakistan International Public Schools and Colleges at Abbottabad are basically residential (English Medium) Educational Institutions, and have been established by the Pakistan Education Association, a Government registered body of the North West Frontier Province (N.W.F.P). The association made a humble beginning at Abbottabad in 1983, when it started admissions in classes Prep to VI only, and by

1989, it went up to F.Sc and Senior Cambridge (SC). Now it comprises four institutions, two High Schools & two Colleges with F.Sc & SC Stream. Subsequently, its sister association opened a branch of the school in Gujranwala, with similar education facilities and it grew to become a college 2001. The Boys College section was later bifurcated and shifted to its new premises on the by-pass road at Gujranwala. The same Association introduced yet another branch with classes Nursery to Matric at Gujrat in 1992. This branch has grown up into two independently running high schools, for Boys & Girls, in their newly constructed impressive buildings. In the year 2000, the Association had started a high school at Sargodha. It has been shifted now, in a spacious and beautiful building. PIPS Sargodha had also added Boarding facilities for it’s students now. Independent branches are now running at Haripur, Sheikhupura & Swabi. The total number of branches has thus risen to thirteen. The Association has recently purchased about two acres of land on Mirpur road, about 200 meters away form the main Mansehra road and hardly 5 minutes walk from Ayub Medical Complex for its junior School & Girls College, presently housed in hired buildings. New buildings will be constructed and the institution shifted there in stages.

Phonetics workshop: A Pronunciation Workout was held at PIPS (Boys) on 19.10.2014. This workshop catered to the needs of both students and teachers, with or without a background in phonetics, who wished to find out more about learning and teaching pronunciation. Participants were provided with a practical, hands-on experience of producing all 44 sounds of the English language using teaching techniques that can be applied to students of varying ages and levels. Using a colour-coded phonetic chart as a 'map' of the English sounds and various exercises to isolate the muscles involved in articulation, we discovered how a technique called 'kinesthesia' can be used to help students gain more articulatory control, break the habits and limitations caused by the mother tongue and make production of second language sounds as easy as ABC. Drawing on content from the Oxford University Press Floppy's Phonics Sounds and Letters programme, Oxford International Primary English and Oxford Dictionaries, this workshop showed us that creating phonemic awareness and teaching pronunciation can be easy, productive and fun! Ms. Azka Khan who conducted this workhop has a Master's Degree in English Linguistics and Literature (gold medalist) from NUML where she also taught Spanish to undergraduate and certificate level students. She is currently working with Oxford University Press, Islamabad as an Academic Coordinator and she has worked as a teacher trainer with Oxford university Press, Lahore in the past. She has also been associated with the Dawn Spelling Bee project as editor, pronouncer and trainer for the past several years.
