It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah observed: He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise. A person (amongst his hearers) said: Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine.
A man said: “What if a man likes his clothes to look good and his shoes to look good?”
He said: “Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty. Pride means rejecting the truth and looking down on people.”
[Sahih Muslim Book of Faith, Hadith: 91]
Imam Ali (RA ) is reported to have said the following:
“Your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it.
Your sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it.
You presume you’re a small entity, but within you is enfolded the entire universe.
You are indeed the evident book by whose alphabet the hidden becomes manifest. Therefore you have no need to look beyond yourself.
What you seek is within you, if only you reflect.”
