The Schools Division of Iloilo proudly received a replica of the 1875 Carta General del Archipiélago Filipino, formally accepted by OIC Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ruby Therese P. Almencion on behalf of the Schools Division.
The historic replica was brought to Iloilo by retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio T. Carpio during his visit to the province in March 2026, reinforcing efforts to promote a deeper appreciation of Philippine history, geography, and sovereignty among learners and educators.
The Schools Division of Iloilo fully supports the implementation of Provincial Ordinance No. 2026-347 (I-LOVEWPS), which seeks to enhance and strengthen the discussion of the West Philippine Sea (WPS), including its historical background, legal basis, and the 2016 Arbitral Ruling, in both public and private schools throughout the Province of Iloilo.
In partnership with the Provincial Government of Iloilo through the Provincial Education Management Office (PEMO), the Schools Division of Iloilo is committed to the objectives of the ordinance by encouraging the development of localized teaching materials and lesson guides, supporting teacher orientation and capacity-building initiatives, promoting awareness campaigns and school-based learning activities related to the West Philippine Sea, and monitoring the effectiveness of these educational efforts at the school level.
As a valuable educational resource, the 1875 Carta General del Archipiélago Filipino will help enrich classroom discussions and foster among learners a stronger understanding of the nation's historical and territorial heritage.
