The Persons and Family Relations Debates, held on December 13, 2025, provided a dynamic platform for first-year law students to demonstrate their understanding of fundamental legal principles through rigorous and thoughtful discourse. The activity brought together debaters from the JD 1-A, JD 1-B, and JD 1-C Contingents, highlighting both advocacy skills and substantive legal knowledge.
This academic undertaking was made possible through the partnership with the WMSU Moot Court Union, the guidance and support of Atty. Arnold C. Bucoy, its moderator and professor of Persons and Family Relations, and the continued support of the Dean of the WMSU College of Law, Atty. Irma Mari Medalle-Rivero, whose encouragement and guidance helped ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
The debate concluded with JD 1-A Contingent Team 2, composed of Dorothy Muyargas, Sharamie Nagdar, and Ranz Louie Jasminez, emerging as the winners of the tournament. Special recognition is also extended to Sharamie Nagdar, who was adjudged Best Speaker of the Tournament for her outstanding performance.

The WMU Entrant Members Orientation (WEMO) 2025 concluded with a motivating message from Interim President Mersan Nagdar, who urged members to embrace their roles in shaping the College of Lawโs first-ever organized debate and moot court team.
The WMU Entrant Members Orientation (WEMO) 2025 wrapped up with a powerful and optimistic address from the Western Mindanao University Moot Court Unionโs Interim President, Mersan Nagdar (JD3A). Speaking with enthusiasm, Nagdar expressed his excitement for the Unionโs upcoming journey as it formally begins its participation in competitive debating and advocacy.
Nagdar emphasized that each member holds an essential role, not only as competitors but also as contributors to the growth and stability of the College of Lawโs pioneering debate and moot court organization. He reminded the new entrants that their commitment extends beyond tournaments; it includes sustaining the culture, standards, and integrity of the Union for the years to come.
He further highlighted the responsibility the Union carries as one of the Collegeโs flagship organizations, tasked with representing the University with integrity, excellence, and passion in all its engagements.
As WEMO 2025 came to a close, the message was clear: while the orientation may have ended, the shared mission of the Union has only just begun. Regular members of the WMSU Moot Court Union (WMU) took charge of key learning sessions during the WMU Entrant Members Orientation (WEMO) 2025, guiding new entrants through debate formats, community-building activities, and the Unionโs commitment to growth and excellence.
The WMU Entrant Members Orientation (WEMO) 2025, held on November 15 at the College of Law, featured active participation and leadership from current regular members of the WMU. The orientation provided new entrants with a comprehensive introduction to the Unionโs culture, standards, and the collaborative environment that defines its training ethos.
Fiona Elisse Morales (JD3A) and Red Lacastesantos (JD2B) facilitated the core academic segment of the program, presenting the common debate formats used in both debate and moot court competitions. Their discussion aimed to familiarize new members with the diversity of competitive structures they may encounter, emphasizing that each format requires a unique blend of analytical skill, teamwork, and adaptability.
To complement the learning sessions, Mary Rose Pilar Ello (JD3B) led the Getting-to-Know-You (GTKY) and energizer activities designed to build rapport among the participants. These interactive exercises reinforced the Unionโs advocacy for camaraderie and mutual support, values essential to sustaining a strong and cohesive team.
The facilitators collectively underscored the Unionโs mission of cultivating excellence through continuous learning. They reminded entrants that everyone, regardless of experience level, remains part of an ongoing developmental process as they hone their skills, refine their reasoning, and strengthen their confidence across varying debate formats.

New entrants of the WMSU Moot Court Union (WMU) were oriented on the Unionโs processes and expectations during the 2025 Entrant Members Orientation (WEMO), an event that also showcased the solid backing of the College of Law administration and student government.
The WMU Entrant Members Orientation (WEMO) 2025 introduced new members to the core operations, standards of performance, and organizational expectations within the Union. Speakers outlined the responsibilities of student debaters and mooters, upcoming trainings, and the culture of discipline and excellence that the Union upholds.
A key highlight of this yearโs orientation was the resounding support expressed by the College of Law leadership. Midway through the program, Dean Irma Medalle delivered a video message extending her gratitude to the students for their willingness to represent the College and University in debate and moot court competitions. She emphasized that the administration fully stands behind the Union and is committed to strengthening its academic and competitive endeavors.
Reinforcing this message, Law Student Association (LSA) President Mark Infante affirmed the LSAโs readiness to assist the Union, particularly through provision of financial support for its operational and training needs. He further oriented entrants on the Unionโs Constitution and By-Laws, clarifying promotion processes, internal protocols, and expectations for conduct and participation.
Their messages underscored a unified commitment to empower WMU members as they prepare for rigorous training and upcoming competitions. With strong institutional and organizational backing, the new cohort enters the year with heightened motivation and a reinforced sense of purpose.

The WMSU Moot Court Union (WMU) energized its newest batch of entrants as Atty. Arnold โACBโ Bucoy, Union Coach, laid out the organizationโs plans for 2025, ranging from intensive training sessions and inter-organizational collaborations to a slate of upcoming debate and moot court competitions.
Addressing the new members, Atty. Bucoy encouraged them to engage fully, stressing that active participation and commitment are essential to maximizing their growth within the Union. He echoed the earlier message delivered by Hon. Judge Ryan Delena, affirming that debating equips students with critical skills fundamental to legal practice. The WMU Entrant Members Orientation (WEMO) 2025 officially commenced today at the College of Law, Western Mindanao State University, welcoming a fresh batch of aspiring members into the Union.
The program opened with an inspiring message from Hon. Judge Ryan Delena, who spoke on behalf of Atty. Irma Medalle, Dean of the College of Law. Judge Delena underscored the importance of cultivating an engaged and active student body, highlighting how participation in debate and moot court sharpens legal reasoning and advocacy skills. He further emphasized the administrationโs strong support for studentsโ involvement in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, noting that such avenues build discipline, commitment, and integrity, values essential as the new entrants embark on their journey within the organization.
