Moreover, the discussion on the ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ฅ๐š๐ง highlights the countryโ€™s development priorities and directions. Awareness of the plan can help students understand national issues and identify fields that may be explored through academic research, particularly when developing research topics that respond to issues within the Philippine context.

The ๐”๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐€๐ ๐ž๐ง๐๐š discussion guided the students through the research priorities of ๐–๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ง ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐๐š๐ง๐š๐จ ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐”๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ. For ๐Ÿ‘๐ซ๐-๐ฒ๐ž๐š๐ซ ๐๐€ ๐„๐‹๐’ students, understanding the universityโ€™s research agenda can help them identify research areas that are relevant to their program and aligned with the institutionโ€™s research priorities.

๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Œ๐š๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ง also introduced the students to different funding agencies that can support undergraduate theses. For instance, the university annually calls for submission of manuscripts for undergraduate thesis funding. He further introduced the required documents and procedures for the application.

Finally, ๐ƒ๐ซ. ๐Œ๐š๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ง promoted the ๐‰๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐„๐๐ฎ๐œ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐š๐ง๐ ๐‹๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐š๐ ๐ž ๐’๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ข๐ž๐ฌ (๐‰๐„๐‹๐’). A clear orientation and discusssion was given by ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐‹๐š๐ง๐ข ๐‡. ๐€๐ฌ๐ฆ๐š๐ from the ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐„๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐œ๐ฌ ๐Ž๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ๐ž of the University. An Alumna of ๐–๐Œ๐’๐” and graduated Magna Cum Laude, she put emphasis on the importance of research ethics that will serve as a guiding light to the research enthusiasts. She specifically tackled the process of obtaining research ethics and its importance to make sure that producing new knowledge will not create damage in the society and shared her remarkable insights in research ethics that will help the student researchers on their journey in research.

The research talk seminar is a constant reminder that research is not built alone, but it is built with the collaborative work of a community. Doing research is more than discovering new knowledge, it is making a bridge to connect and contribute to society. On this journey of discovery, research ethics plays a significant role in establishing the credibility of the study. The discussion highlighted different forms of plagiarism, including ๐๐ข๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐ ๐ข๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ and ๐ฆ๐จ๐ฌ๐š๐ข๐œ ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฉ๐š๐ญ๐œ๐ก๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐ ๐ข๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ, as well as the proper use of quotations and citations.

The contribution of ๐†๐ž๐ง๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐€๐ˆ in academic work was also discussed alongside the policies that guide its proper and responsible use. The ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐“๐š๐ฅ๐ค gave ๐๐€ ๐„๐‹๐’ students a chance to learn how plagiarism may occur and how proper attribution can be practiced during a research process.

As the ๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐“๐š๐ฅ๐ค series continues, students are expected to explore more topics that tackle academic research, writing, and the responsibilities that come with producing academic research.

Beyond Classroom and University Borders: 4th-year BA ELS Shines on the International Stage

It started with different ideas, endless revisions, sleepless nights, and doubts, yet they conquered the international stage. A group of individuals who were just dreaming of passing the course program is now taking a high leap by presenting themselves and their hard work on a stage where no one thought they could do it.

We want to extend our heartwarming CONGRATULATIONS to our 4th Year BA ELS students who took part in the 4th Salindunong International Conference on Language, Research, & 18th Kumperensiya sa Filipino, Panitikan at Pananaliksik with the theme โ€œFrom Words to Wisdom: Bridging Cultures through Language, Literature and Research for Regional and Global Peaceโ€ via Zoom platform for 3 consecutive days, starting from September 16 to September 18, 2026.

The road to success is never easy, yet what is never easy is always worth it. Before this success, we witnessed our BA ELS students struggling and making numerous adjustments to survive the course, keep up with their studies, and complete the series of analyses. Nothing can measure the countless breakdowns, self-doubts, hair loss, caffeine intake, and the never-ending dialogue of โ€œpagod na 'ko." Yet what they thought was impossible is now part of their journey. Them being with different people around the globeโ€”professors, PhDs, teachers, and researchersโ€”is a proud moment for the whole department and the university, as they came there not only to learn but also to prove that they all share the same passion. Although they came nervous and students who are full of doubts, they left fulfilled, inspired, motivated, and proud.
This success is never just about the people in front of the camera but is always celebrated with the people behind the hard work.

This success would never be possible without the guidance and support of the research advisers and the research instructorsโ€”Dr. Pilar S. Caparas and Dr. Justine Kay D. Rojonan-Layola. Congratulations to our research advisers and research instructors; as much as this is the studentsโ€™ success, you will always be part of their milestones and achievements. The constant support and encouragement really meant a lot to our students. You didnโ€™t just teach them how to construct their research paper, but you also taught them how to stand up for themselves and never let fear hinder them and their potential.
We would also like to express our sincerest gratitude to our University President, Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena; the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Fhadzralyn A. Karanain; the Head of the English Department, Asso. Prof. Haydee G. Adalia, and to everyone who celebrates this success with us and our students.

This journey of our students proves that there shouldnโ€™t be โ€œjustโ€ when mentioning "undergraduates" as they can also proveโ€”and they already didโ€”that being one is never a limitation. There is room for us to contribute and achieve greater things.

The General Assembly was brought outdoorsโ€”to the WMSU Field, where the real excitement began. The English Society officers kicked off the second part with a fun and engaging game that everyone enjoyed. The field was soon filled with powerful and spirited chants prepared by the different year levels, bringing even more energy and excitement to the gathering.

The crowdโ€™s excitement grew even louder as the highlight of this yearโ€™s General Assembly finally unfoldedโ€”the Mr. and Ms. BA ELS 2026! Contestants from the teams of Adseqour, Volente, Callidus, and Lenguadores took the stage and graced the crowd with their beauty, confidence, and outstanding wit. With their charm and captivating presence, they truly made the stage their own.

Overall, this yearโ€™s General Assembly truly brought out the spirit of โ€œOne BA ELS, One Community.โ€ From the fun activities and energetic chants to the much-awaited Mr. and Ms. BA ELS 2026, the event became a memorable celebration for everyone.
