The morning session set the stage for a day of intellectual discovery and scholarly exchange. Advancing language and literature through research, the event opened with a solemn invocation and stirring notes of the Philippine National Anthem and Zamboanga Hermosa Hymn, grounding the gathering in unity and purpose.
Associate Dean Dr. Roel P. Borja, representing OIC-Dean of the College of Liberal Arts Dr. Fhadzralyn A. Maulion, representing the Vice President for Research and Extension, Dr. Joel G. Fernando, who emphasized the transformative power of research in shaping disciplines and communities.
The heart of the morning unfolded through a series of interesting research presentations that are jam-packed with much-needed knowledge for the students. Asso. Prof. Justine Kay D. Rojonon and Dr. Pilar S. Caparas introduced our speakers loud and proud. Each presentation showcased the diverse methodologies and critical lenses shaping contemporary inquiry. Highlights included:
Session 1, which delves into Phenomenology "The Lived Experiences in the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GENAI) and AI-assisted Applications among Private School Science Teachers in Zamboanga City," was presented by Mr. Raffy S. De Leon, a WMSU-CTE alumna and currently a faculty member at Pilar College, Inc. Her study explores how linguistic choices reflect and shape cultural identity in digital spaces. It bridges sociolinguistics and media studies.
Session 3 revolves around Stylistic Analysis: Graphological and Semantic Analysis on the Concrete and Reverse Poem โNavigating the Blue Seaโ by Adhira Vellala presented by Ms. Alyza E. Toribio, a WMSU-BAELS alumna. Her analysis highlights how visual structure and meaning interplay in poetic expression.
Session 4 dives into the Stylistic Analysis A Stylistic Analysis of the Philippine Muslim Short Story, โThe Blueblood of the Big Astana,โ presented by Ms. Anive Jade A. Locsin, a WMSU-BAELS alumna and currently working at the Universidad de Zamboanga Research. Her study contributes to the appreciation of regional narratives.
Session 5 introduced a more facile avenue for "Gathering Data Using Media Aggregator," presented by Mr. Juseph Elas, a WMSU-MASSCOM alumnus/data analyst. His study demonstrates how digital platforms can be harnessed to collect and analyze large-scale information efficiently.
Towards the end of the morning session, the lively open forums were punctuated, inviting dialogue and deepening the discourse. The morning concluded with a sense of momentum, an energizing prelude to the afternoon's hands-on workshop in corpus linguistics.
