Every year, we celebrate the SKLC Foundation Day on a very meaningful day—-the birthday of our beloved founder, Atty Susana Braganza Muin. Though no longer with us, Lola Attorney’s gentle heart, bright smile, and vision for early childhood education live on in every laugh, game, and lesson shared in these halls.

DAY OF MOURNING AND SUSPENSION OF CLASSES ON AUGUST 19, 2026

August 18, 2026 was a very, very sad and tragic day for Zambamga City. Two young students died in the shooting incident that happened early this morning at the Ateneo de Zamboanga campus in Barangay Tumaga .

The City Government of Zamboanga mourns with profound sadness the tragic loss of two young lives.

We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families, loved ones, classmates, teachers, and the entire school community. Our hearts are with you in this time of unimaginable grief.

We appeal to everyone to remain calm and compassionate, refrain from spreading unverified information, and allow the proper authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. The City Government will continue to work closely with law enforcement and concerned agencies to ensure that the safety and well-being of our students and our community remain our highest priority.

As a solemn expression of our collective grief and respect for the lives lost, classes at all levels in all public and private academic institutions in Zamboanga City are SUSPENDED on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2026 which shall be observed as a DAY OF MOURNING.

Let us use this day to grieve, pray, and reflect on our shared responsibility to protect our children and uphold the sanctity of life.

To the bereaved families, we grieve with you. Zamboanga City stands with you in this painful moment.

May the souls of the two young lives we lost rest in eternal peace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ateneo de Zamboanga Community, the bereaved families and everyone affected by the incident this morning. We place our hope in the Almighty and pray for peace, protection and healing for all. 💙

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University is saddened by the incident that happened today on our JHS campus.

As of now, we confirm that there are 2 fatalities. As for other information, we are coordinating with authorities for the full report with full details to be provided as soon as possible.

The safety of our students is our top priority. We have already coordinated with parents and guardians to pick up their children and the university has ensured the safety of those remaining on campus.

We have set up official communication channels and will relay these information to the public as soon as possible. We urge the public to refrain from sharing unverified info, photos, and videos as these will only bring further harm to those involved and may hinder the ongoing investigation of the incident.

In the meantime, we ask everyone to respect the privacy of all affected individuals.

We pray for the quick resolution of the situation and for the safety of all. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

PUBLIC ADVISORY| Face-to-face classes at all levels - both public and private schools in the city are SUSPENDED on Monday, August 17, 2026, due to high heat index.

Based on the latest PAGASA bulletin, Zamboanga City’s heat index is forecast to reach 41 degrees Celsius on Monday, Aug. 17.

Nonetheless, work in government and private agencies, as well as business operations, continue as usual.

The public is advised to take extra precautions during periods of high heat index to prevent heat-related illnesses like cramps, exhaustion, and stroke. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, limit outdoor exposure between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, wear light clothing, and use sun protection.

With the Dengue Epidemic Declaration by the Local Government of Zamboanga City and the City Health Office, we highly encourage everyone to maintain a clean environment and eliminate stagnant water sources around your area, neighborhood or community.

Protect your home, family and barangay. Help spread awareness and take note of the 🛑 THE 5-S DENGUE PREVENTION PLAN:

SEARCH & DESTROY: Inspect surroundings daily. Drain and scrub containers, flower vases, drums, and roof gutters holding standing water.

SELF-PROTECTION: Wear long sleeves and pants to prevent mosquito bites especially in early morning and afternoon hours. Use insect repellent and mosquito nets (kulambo).

SEEK EARLY CONSULTATION: Visit your nearest Barangay Health Center or see a doctor immediately if fever lasts more than 2 days.

SUPPORT MISTING & FOGGING: Cooperate with neighborhood spraying operations in hotspot barangays.

SUSTAIN HYDRATION: Drink plenty of clean water and oral rehydration fluids at the onset of fever.
