On November 25, the 11th Congress of the WMSU-USC Senate was officially inaugurated, ushering in a fresh wave of leadership and marking an exciting new chapter for the student body. The session, led by outgoing Senate President Hon. Jehan G. Gunao from the College of Teacher Education, reflected on the remarkable achievements of the 10th Congress. The past year’s accomplishments were celebrated, and gratitude was expressed for the hard work that shaped those successes. The beginning of the new academic year called for the election of a new group of officials, committed to working towards a better WMSU.

In the viva voce election, Hon. Sadriemar Sali from the College of Public Administration and Development Studies was elected as the new Senate President, with Hon. Mark Jay B. Cabato elected as Senate President Pro Tempore and Hon. Rafel Angelo Buntag appointed by the majority as Majority Floor Leader. Hon. Sitti Raiza Abubakar was appointed as Majority Whip. Meanwhile, Hon. Ahmad Rauf A. Abdurauf and Hon. Jirecho Lopez was elected as Minority Floor Leader and Minority Whip, respectively. The Senate is ready for a year of growth, cooperation, and continued dedication to serving the student body. Here’s to a successful start and even greater accomplishments ahead! 🎉

The Western Mindanao State University Student Council Senate convened for its 6th regular session at 1:00 PM in Room 24 of the College of Teacher Education on August 2, 2024. During this session, the elected senate officers warmly welcomed and oriented the new Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Senators, ensuring they were well-prepared for their roles. The meeting progressed with detailed discussions on several resolutions that were pending approval and other senate business.

This session marked another step in the Senate's ongoing efforts to address important issues and implement meaningful changes within the university community.

In a historic move, the Western Mindanao State University Student Council Senate 10th Congress has adopted a new official seal and logo. The new emblem features the majestic Philippine Eagle, symbolizing strength, power, and national pride. The eighteen feathers of the eagle represent the seventeen colleges and the External Studies Unit (ESU) of the university. Additionally, the justice weighing scale emphasizes fairness and impartiality in decision-making, while the laurel wreath symbolizes victory and excellence. The three stars highlight the balance of power among the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches, ensuring stability in the democratic system.

The logo was created by the former Architecture Senator, who is now the OIC Vice President of the USC.
