| AdZU SLA Conduct this Yearโs Student General Assembly
As part of the Ignatian mission of transforming learners into future men and women for and with others, the AdZU School of Liberal Arts conducted the Students General Assembly on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the Multi-Purpose Covered Courts 2 (MPCC 2).
Opening the program was the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts Dr. Ailyn Sabdilon-Absara who expressed her hopes and excitement for the future of the school, especially working together with both faculty and students as the newly appointed head of the unit. She also reminded the students of the universityโs theme of "Servicio con Amor y Alegriaโ โ that their time in SLA will form them not just in mind, but also in heart and spirit.
Our student Liberalistas displayed an energy and drive unique to this gathering of young free thinkers and action makers. Led by the Liberal Arts Academic Organization (LAAO), students, especially the freshmen, got a comprehensive view of each of the programs rules and retention policies and had the chance to get to know their professors and mentors. The LAAOโs organizations laid out their future plans, detailed their accomplishments, and shared other important info. Speakers from the This was all made even more enriching with other lively activities and insightful conversations.
An inspiring highlight of the event was a special sharing of experience by the eventโs guest speaker Mr. Joaquin Carlos Gonzales โ a proud Liberal Arts alumnus. He recalled his time as an international studies learner and likened the guidance of SLA to that of a compass. Throughout his years and even as he achieved a successful career abroad, he never lost sight of what truly matters as a true, blue-blooded Liberalista โ to use ones talents and skills in joyful service to others.
In AdZU SLA, we make sure our students are seen, heard, and welcomed. As is the mandate of AdZU, we strive to instill in our students not just skills and competency, but more importantly, the Ignatian values that make an Atenean a truly whole person โ one who serves with Magis and Cura pPersonalis especially in the wide and varied world of liberal arts.
In SLA, you can!

๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ | Faculty General Assembly
The School of Liberal Arts (SLA) successfully held its Faculty General Assembly and Forum on July 22, 2026, at the SLA Workroom, bringing together faculty members and administrators as the School officially welcomed the new academic year.
The assembly commenced with Dean Ailyn Sabdilon-Absara's Opening Remarks and Inputs, where faculty members were apprised of the School's general directions, priorities, and aspirations for Academic Year 2026โ2027, reaffirming the community's shared commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
The highlight of the program was the inspiring forum delivered by Mr. Conrado "Shing" Balatbat, who shared his personal journey as an educator and reminded participants that teaching extends beyond delivering lessons. Through stories and reflections, he emphasized that while communication is essential, our tone is everything; that educators are called to continually reflect on why they do what they do; and that teachers are capable of becoming far more than what is simply expected of them.
The School of Liberal Arts extends its sincere gratitude to all faculty members and administrators who participated in the assembly and contributed to a meaningful start to the academic year. Together, may we continue to embrace our mission with excellence, compassion, and a spirit of service.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.

As part of its continuing commitment to promoting mental health, trauma-informed care, and community-responsive professional formation, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Liberal Arts proudly highlights ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฃ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐๐๐๐ (๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ)โa capacity-building initiative developed and spearheaded by ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ง ๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐จ๐ง-๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐, licensed psychologist and Dean of the School of Liberal Arts.
Grounded in the belief that those who help survivors heal must themselves be equipped with the skills to listen safely, respond compassionately, and intervene without causing further harm, Project HILOM strengthens the competencies of social workers who support women and child survivors of trauma arising from domestic violence, sexual abuse, trafficking, displacement, armed conflict, neglect, and other forms of psychosocial adversity.
In line with this advocacy, Dr. Absara recently served as a Resource Speaker during the "๐๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ซ-๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฉ๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ฌ: ๐๐ก๐ซ๐๐-๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐ซ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐-๐๐ง๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ, ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ง๐ข๐ช๐ฎ๐๐ฌ," organized by Katilingban sa Kalambuan Organization, Inc. (KKI) and held on June 26, 2026, at Mt. Apo View Hotel, Davao City.
The training brought together social workers from across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), including representatives from Cotabato, Lanao del Norte, Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. As frontline practitioners supporting women and children affected by trauma and abuse, participants deepened their knowledge and skills in trauma-informed care, survivor-centered case management, psychological first aid, crisis intervention, and counseling techniques that promote safety, dignity, and healing.
Through initiatives such as Project HILOM, the School of Liberal Arts continues to advance its mission of forming professionals who combine academic excellence with compassionate service, contributing meaningfully to mental health advocacy, human dignity, and the well-being of vulnerable communities across the region.
In ๐๐๐, we empower those who serveโbecause healing begins with compassionate, capable, and committed professionals.
