With bright smiles, cute backpacks, and excited hearts, our young Ateneans officially made their grand comeback yesterday, June 15, 2026, at the WHK Campus, Tumaga! The first day of school was a vibrant celebration that welcomed both returning students and transferees to a brand-new journey of learning, growth, and excellence.

From the campus gates to the classrooms, the air buzzed with energy as administrators, faculty, staff, and the Jesuit community warmly welcomed the students to their new home for the year.

𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬

Classrooms instantly came alive with laughter during the Getting-to-Know-You (GTKY) activities and special surprises prepared by class moderators. Old friends reunited, new friendships blossomed, and the foundations for a supportive school year were instantly laid!

𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐂

The community gathered for its first official assembly at the Fr. Aureo Nepomuceno Covered Courts (FANCC), featuring special highlights:

1. Warm Welcomes: The GS community extended a big Ateneo welcome to visiting Jesuit Scholastics Bro. Zequel Noronha dos Reis, SJ, Bro. Edito Seixas dos Santos, SJ, and Bro. Jerome Maambong, SJ, alongside Fr. Jem Guevara, SJ and Bro. Jeffrey Pioquinto, SJ.

2. Packing the 5 C’s: Our new AdZU GS Principal, Ms. Mary Grace S. Forniza, inspired everyone to pack five essential values in their spiritual backpacks this year: Competence, Character, Conscience, Compassion, and Culture. Through these, students can become “proud heroes with humble hearts.”

3. Curious & Kind: Mr. Jeffrey O. Jalani (Vice President for Basic Education) challenged the students to always “be curious and kind” to foster both critical thinking and compassionate hearts.

4. Celebrating Excellence: Special shoutouts went to our Day 1 Punctuality Awardees (Cixrus Andrei E. Teves, Keira B. Doller, Ms. Murphy V. Solamillo, Ms. Julley Anne P. Perez, and Ms. Almarie A. Amon), as well as the participants of the recent Macau–Hong Kong Educational Tour!

The memorable day beautifully concluded with a community blessing led by Fr. Jem Guevara, SJ, lifting up the entire school year to God's continuous guidance and protection.

What does it mean to remember your "first love" as an educator?

On June 9, 2026, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School Faculty and Staff paused their busy pre-school preparations to gather at the serene AdZU Lantaka Campus for a profound one-day recollection.

This spiritual circle brought together our seasoned pillars (with over 6 years of dedication) and our enthusiastic new faces ( zero to five years). Under the gentle guidance of 𝐁𝐫𝐨. 𝐉𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐲 𝐔. 𝐏𝐢𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨, 𝐒𝐉, the community immersed themselves in a beautiful journey of reflection and renewal.

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐑𝐞𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, & 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠
Rooted in the depth of Ignatian spirituality, the day unfolded across three transformative spiritual movements:

•Healing the Teacher’s Heart – A comforting reminder that through every triumph and trial of our vocation, God walks steadfastly beside us.
•Rekindling the Teaching Heart – A safe, grace-filled space to unpack emotional or mental baggage, lay down heavy worries, and reconnect with the foundational "why" behind our calling.
•The Gift of Gratitude – An invitation to find God in all things and discover the silver lining in every challenge. The session culminated in a collective offering of St. Ignatius’ beautiful Suscipe prayer, surrendering our liberty, memory, understanding, and entire will back to His grace.

𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐉𝐨𝐲!
The recollection concluded beautifully with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Fr. Jem Guevara, SJ (GS and JHS Chaplain).

Leaving the Lantaka shores with lighter hearts, anchored faith, and a revitalized passion, the AdZU GS Faculty and Staff are officially ready to welcome our young Ateneans with open arms, love, and joy for the upcoming academic year!

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School proudly celebrates another milestone as its Class of 2026 Animo Awardee, Sofia Alessandra F. Bakkour, received a Certificate of Recognition from the City Government of Zamboanga for her outstanding academic achievements and remarkable accomplishments. The Animo Award, the highest academic honor conferred by the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School, is awarded to Sofia Alessandra F. Bakkour, who attains the highest academic average in Grades V and VI. Sofia’s achievement reflects her unwavering commitment to excellence, dedication to learning, and embodiment of the Atenean spirit of magis and service.

The recognition was conferred by City Mayor Capt. Khymer Adan T. Olaso, M.M., in acknowledgment of Sofia’s exceptional performance as the Grade School Animo Awardee of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Class of 2026. The award highlights her unwavering dedication to learning, commitment to excellence, and positive influence as a role model for young learners in the city.

In the citation, Sofia was commended for her notable achievements in Mathematics, Science, and Campus Journalism, which have brought pride and honor not only to Ateneo de Zamboanga University but also to the entire City of Zamboanga through her accomplishments in both local and national competitions.

The City Government also recognized Sofia’s selection as a Region IX representative to the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) 2026, underscoring her exceptional talent, competence, and dedication to academic and journalistic excellence.

This special recognition reflects the values of hard work, perseverance, leadership, and service that Sofia has consistently demonstrated throughout her years in Grade School. Her achievements serve as an inspiration to fellow Ateneans to pursue excellence while remaining grounded in humility, integrity, and a commitment to making meaningful contributions to society.

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School community extends its heartfelt congratulations to Sofia Alessandra F. Bakkour on this well-deserved honor. The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of two of its 2026 graduates and student leaders, Zara Makeen A. Ilaji and Denzo Richmond A. Formato, who were recognized as recipients of the Youth Leadership Excellence Award (YLEA) 2026, also known as the Batang Lider Award.

The award is a flagship program of the Junior Chamber International Western Mindanao II under the umbrella of JCI Philippines, which honors outstanding graduating learners from Grade 6, Grade 10, and Grade 12 in both public and private schools. The prestigious recognition is given to students who demonstrate excellence in leadership, academic performance, and community involvement.

The awarding ceremony was held on May 24, 2026, at KCC Mall de Zamboanga, gathering young leaders from across the region who embody integrity, service, and excellence.

For AdZU Grade School, the recognition of Zara and Denzo is a testament not only to their individual accomplishments but also to the values-centered formation that the school continues to nurture among its learners. Throughout their years in the Grade School, both student leaders consistently demonstrated initiative, responsibility, compassion, and a strong commitment to serving others—qualities that reflect the very heart of an Atenean education.

and guardians attend the briefing at Regis Hall, students will
participate in their orientation sessions in their designated
classrooms.
• As we begin this partnership in your child's formation, the
attendance of both the parent/guardian and the student is
required.
• Please bring your own pen for any necessary documentation.
• Ensure that your child is dressed comfortably and appropriately
for the activities.
