Plan International Pilipinas Statement on the Shooting Incident at San Jose National High School, Tacloban City
Plan International Pilipinas expresses its deepest sympathies over the tragic shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, which claimed the lives of three students and left several others injured. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, classmates, teachers, and the entire school community as they grapple with the profound loss caused by this tragedy.
Violence has no place in our society. Schools must always be safe spaces where children can learn, grow, and realize their full potential.
We acknowledge the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Philippine National Police (PNP) and trust that the authorities will pursue a thorough process to establish the facts and ensure accountability for those responsible, in accordance with the law.
As investigations continue, we urge the public to refrain from speculation, the spread of unverified information, and the stigmatization of any child involved.
We also recognize the efforts of government agencies and local authorities in providing sustained psychosocial care, child protection services, and other appropriate interventions to the individuals affected, particularly children. These will remain essential in supporting their recovery and well-being in the days and months ahead.
Plan International Pilipinas stands in solidarity with the people of Tacloban City and remains committed to working with government, schools, and communities to help create safer environments where all children and young people can live free from fear.
