Last January 31, 2026, the MAPEH Department of Ateneo de Zamboanga University โ Junior High School conducted a Yakan Culture Workshop in celebration of National Arts Month. This initiative also served as the departmentโs Income-Generating Project (IGP), intended to support future outreach programs.
In partnership with the Office of the Vice Governor, led by Hon. Jim Hataman Salliman, the department carried out an outreach program in Isabela, Basilan on April 11, 2026. This initiative was organized as a gesture of gratitude to the Yakan community for generously sharing their cultural knowledge during the workshop and for their continued efforts in preserving their rich heritage. As the central focus of the workshop, the Yakan community was chosen as the primary beneficiary.
The IGP successfully generated substantial funds, with twenty percent (20%) of the total proceeds allocated directly to the Yakan community in Isabela, Basilan.
The outreach program was warmly received by the Office of the Vice Governor, represented by Executive Assistant Mr. Benjamin Hataman and Board Secretary Mr. Moh. Noore Ladjagais. The MAPEH Department expresses its sincere gratitude for this meaningful partnership, which made it possible to extend assistance to the communityโan embodiment of the mission of Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
During the program, Ms. IC DC Zamora conveyed her appreciation to the community for their warm welcome and hospitality.
The department also extends its heartfelt thanks to the AdZU JHS Yakan Culture Workshop participants for their active involvement and support in preserving and promoting the beauty of Yakan culture. Special appreciation is likewise given to Mr. Benjamin Hataman, Mr. Moh. Noore Ladjagais, and Vice Governor Hon. Jim Hataman Salliman for their generous accommodation and unwavering support for both the beneficiaries and the team.
Furthermore, the department gratefully acknowledges the invaluable assistance of the volunteers, cook, and security personnel who contributed to the success of the outreach program. Above all, we thank the entire AdZU JHS community for its continued support throughout this initiative.
As we move forward, we remain committed to being people for and with others.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.
