Fourth-year members of Ateneo Psych iCare joined the gathering of more than 7,300junior affiliates from across the Philippines at the 39th Psychological Association of the Philippines - Junior Affiliates (PAPJA) National Convention at the SMX Convention Center MOA and De La Salle University (DLSU) last April 27-28, 2026.
Centering on the theme โFuturescaping Psychology: Our Role in Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals,โ the AdZU delegation participated in the opening ceremonies and engaged in various educational workshops designed to explore psychology's impact on global sustainability.
The delegation was represented in the Inter-School Quiz Bee Competition by Ruben Farrish Cunanan, Fatima Nashra Abdullah, and Zyrille Eustaqio.
The gathering was further distinguished by the presence of Ms. Jodi Sta. Maria, who delivered a resonant message concerning the vital role psychology majors play within contemporary society. During her address, she offered a powerful affirmation to the delegates, emphasizing their inherent value and right to be part of the profession.
She reminded the audience that โYou belong exactly where you are. You deserve to be here. Itโs not a mistake,โ providing comfort and motivation to those who might occasionally grapple with feelings of displacement or self-doubt in their academic and professional journeys.
In addition to the convention activities, the delegates completed an extensive educational tour. This tour included visits to prominent institutions such as Ateneo de Manila University, DLSU, and the Philippine Psychological Corporation.

READ | 4th Year BS PSY students explore LGBT experiences via film, research, dialogue
Fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Psychology students, under the guidance of instructor Jayson V. Sabdilon, RPm, MS, successfully carried out their LGBT Psychology Culminating Activity. This comprehensive project involved a multifaceted exploration of the lived experiences of Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals by analyzing local and international films, reviewing existing academic research, and engaging in direct dialogue with community members.
The LGBT Psychology course is designed to illuminate the diverse narratives and unique challenges faced by the LGBT community, particularly those ongoing struggles that significantly impact mental health outcomes. By focusing on these often-marginalized stories, the curriculum seeks to foster a more inclusive psychological framework that validates all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
For their final culminating project, LesBeyond Labels (Le***an Group), BongGay Ka, Dai! (Gay Group), BI Psytr/x (Bisexual Group), Transcending Borders (Transgender Group) were tasked with synthesizing their academic knowledge through rigorous application. This included conducting in-depth thematic analyses of films that portray the complexities of LGBT life, developing a thorough understanding of the current landscape of psychological research about these groups, and facilitating meaningful dialogues. These direct interactions allowed students to gain firsthand insights into the personal journeys and societal experiences of community members, bridging the gap between theoretical study and real-world empathy.
