Excellence extends beyond the chemical laboratory! WMSU-ChemSoc proudly recognizes 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥 𝐈𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐆. 𝐃𝐨𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry student, for securing the title of 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍 in the City-wide Statistics Quiz held on September 17, 2026, at the Wynn Hotel.

Last September 5, 2026, the University-Wide Statistics Quiz Bee took place at the CSM Conference Hall and a BS Chemistry student emerged with the winning formula! WMSU-ChemSoc warmly congratulates alchemist 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥 𝐈𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐆. 𝐃𝐨𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, for taking home the title of the champion🏆!

WMSU-Chemical Society extends its sincere gratitude to Balik-Scientist Dr. Elmer-Rico E. Mojica for sharing his knowledge at Western Mindanao State University (WMSU). His expertise in the field has enriched our community and offered both faculty and students a glance at the real world with his experiences as a force of science.

The students of WMSU had the opportunity to listen to a three-day program from August 5 to 7, where the attendees gained valuable insights across several critical fields of chemistry — from Analytical Methods in Environmental and Biological Systems, to Chromatographic Applications in Food Science and Agriculture, to Advanced Nanomaterials and Characterization Techniques.

Dr. Mojica also delivered an inspirational speech during the CHEMustahan 2026, on August 8 at the CSM Conference Hall. This served as an avenue for first-year students to learn more about the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program and gain insights into the journey that awaits them as aspiring chemists. In his speech, Dr. Mojica looked back on his journey—from his early childhood and years in education to his experiences as a Balik-Scientist—and reflected on his aspirations for the future and the uncertainties that come with it.

Before concluding his speech, Dr. Mojica wished the first-year Alchemists success as they embark on their journey toward becoming licensed chemists. His message served not only as an introduction to the possibilities within the field but also as a reminder that every accomplished scientist begins with the same first step: choosing to pursue the discipline with curiosity, perseverance, and purpose.

Last August 24, 2026, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and DOST-PCIEERD, formally concluded the short-term engagement of Dr. Elmer-Rico E. Mojica through the 2026 Balik Scientist Program (BSP) Exit Conference, held at the Amphitheater, Science Hub Building, WMSU Campus B.

Guided by the theme “Bringing Minds Together. Building a Stronger Scientific Future”, the program highlighted the contributions Dr. Mojica made throughout his stay here in Zamboanga City, through which WMSU students and faculty gained valuable insight from his expertise in analytical chemistry and scientific research.
ㅤ
The program started with welcoming remarks given by Vice President for Research and Extension Dr. Teresita A. Narvaez, followed by an inspirational message from University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena.

Afterwards, Dr. Elmer-Rico E. Mojica gave his exit report, presenting the accomplishments he achieved during his engagement with the university.

Faculty and student mentees also shared testimonials, reflecting on their experiences throughout the program. The testimonials were shared by Dr. Najeeb S. Abdulla II and Asso. Prof. Jayson T. Francisco of the Department of Chemistry; Dr. Kay P. Ramos, Head of the Philippine Agriculture Research and Extension Center; Dr. Genelyn G. Madjos, Head of the Department of Biological Sciences; Dr. Mario Ritchie O. Hibionada, Associate Dean of the College of Criminal Justice Education; and Mr. Emilio Gabriel A. Badua, a BS Chemistry student.

Furthermore, statements of gratitude were given by Dr. Reynante E. Autida and Dr. Lina S. Lacandalo, while Dir. Rosemarie S. Salazar and Dr. Marvin A. Maulion conveyed their institutions' commitment to future collaboration.

The program concluded with the conferment of a Plaque and Certificate of Commendation to Dr. Mojica, followed by closing remarks from Coillege of Science and Mathematics Dean Dr. Mohammad Nur S. Paspasan.

This exit conference does not mark an end, but a new beginning. It is a testament to the lasting impact of Dr. Mojica's expertise on the lives of the students and faculty through the knowledge he imparted, and WMSU’s commitment to development through research and collaboration.

‎Last August 8, 2026, the WMSU-CSM Conference Room was filled with laughter, excitement, and lively conversations as BS Chemistry students gathered to celebrate Chemustahan 2026. The annual gathering served as an avenue for the Alchemists to reconnect, have fun, reflect on the accomplishments of the Chemistry Society, and welcome a new chapter of leadership.

‎The program commenced with the preliminary activities, followed by the opening remarks delivered by Dr. Lina S. Lacandalo, who warmly welcomed the students especially the freshies and set the tone for the gathering. This was followed by a short icebreaker that encouraged the Alchemists to mingle, interact, and enjoy the company of their fellow chemistry students.

‎Adding significance to the event, Dr. Elmer-Rico Mojica, a visiting professor from PACE University under the DOST Balik Scientist Program, graced the occasion as the guest speaker. He shared inspiring stories and valuable insights from his journey—from his experiences as a student to becoming a distinguished scientist. His experiences served as an encouragement to the Alchemists, reminding them that every journey in the field of chemistry begins with learning, perseverance, and a willingness to grow.

‎After the inspirational talk, another icebreaker was conducted, giving everyone another opportunity to participate and have fun. The event then proceeded to the presentation of the ChemSoc Accomplishment Report for School Year 2025–2026. The report highlighted the programs, projects, and initiatives accomplished by the organization, emphasizing that each achievement was made possible through the collective efforts and active participation of the Alchemists.

‎Moving forward, the election of the new ChemSoc officers was conducted, marking the beginning of another chapter in the organization's leadership. The newly elected officers were then formally inducted and took their oath of office, signifying their commitment to serve the WMSU Chemistry community with responsibility, dedication, and integrity.

‎To conclude the gathering, a photo opportunity was held to capture the memories shared throughout the event. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the Alchemists who were present and contributed to making Chemustahan 2026 a meaningful and successful gathering.
