The Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension Services, and External Linkages, in collaboration with the satellite Socio-economic Research and Data Analytic Center (SERDAC) in WMSU, successfully conducted a 5-day training workshop on “Impact Assessment for Extension Project Implementors” on November 25-29, 2024, at the RDEC Conference Room, Zamboanga City.

Dr. Roperto S. Deluna Jr. from the University of Southern Philippines (USeP) led the training workshop, together with the facilitator Ms. Riza Mae P***n, the center manager of SERDAC Mindanao, and their center staff Ms. Kristy May Titong.

The primary objective of this workshop was to equip WMSU faculty members and research staff with the fundamental knowledge and methods required for conducting impact assessment studies.

The training workshop commenced with a discussion of the foundational concepts of crafting community projects, starting from problem tree conversion to objective tree, using strategy selection leading to the formulation of goals or overall objectives. Dr. Deluna emphasized the importance of the log frame and theory of change embedded in the extension proposal, as these are the bases for evaluating the impact of extension projects on the community. Throughout the discussions, participants actively presented their outputs on each topic.

This collaboration contributes significantly to the extension projects at WMSU, as the participants gained essential insights and practical skills to deliver impactful extension projects, fostering academic excellence and driving positive changes in the community."

We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena for her unwavering support of SERDAC's initiatives.

We also thank Dr. Nursia Barjose, VPAA, Dr. Joel G. Fernando, VP RESEL, Dr. Dulce Amor Matondo, Assistant to the VP RESEL, Dr. Reynante E. Autida, RDEC Director, and Dr. Marvin Maulion, Director for RCOO, for their trust and confidence.

We are deeply grateful to DOST PCAARRD for their continued financial support of our endeavors.
