𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲: 𝐁𝐒 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐚 𝐅𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫.

The 3rd year BS Agriculture students major in Crop Science took part in the seminar entitled “𝑨𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒂 𝑭𝒊𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆” an academic activity designed to enhance their technical knowledge and practical understanding of abaca fiber production and quality assessment.

The seminar featured Mr. Reymark M. Dasigan, Fabric Development Officer II, as the resource speaker, who shared his expertise on the fundamental and advanced practices in abaca cultivation. He emphasized the importance of proper harvesting techniques, efficient post-harvest handling, and the standardized process of fiber grading and classification to ensure high-quality output that meets industry standards.

During the discussion, students were introduced to the different grades of abaca fiber, their characteristics, and their corresponding market value, highlighting how quality directly influences competitiveness in local markets. The session also underscored the role of farmers and future agriculturists in maintaining product integrity through proper handling and adherence to grading standards.

The activity was further supported by Mrs. Gina M. Bordeos, Fiber Development Officer II and Fabric Inspector, contributing to the smooth facilitation of the seminar and reinforcing the delivery of technical knowledge to the participants.

The seminar served as a platform for bridging academic learning with real-world industry practices, equipping students with relevant knowledge and skills essential for their future careers in the agricultural sector, particularly in the abaca industry.

The BS Agriculture – Crop Science program will be conducting an insightful seminar tomorrow, April 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at CatSU – College of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The seminar, ““𝑨𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒂 𝑭𝒊𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆.” aims to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of abaca fiber, particularly in proper grading and its real-world industry applications.

This activity is open to all Crop Science major students, as well as students who are eager to gain knowledge and learn more about abaca fiber and its significance in the industry.

All interested participants are encouraged to attend and take part in this valuable learning opportunity.

𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲| 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 26, 2026

The BS Agriculture major in Crop Science students conducted a field activity focused on sunflower transplanting at the flower garden. The activity aimed to enhance their skills in plant selection, proper transplanting techniques, and crop management.

During the activity, the students carefully transplanted sunflower seedlings, ensuring proper spacing and correct handling to avoid damage to the roots.

The activity was carried out with the help and supervision of the On-the-Job Trainees (OJTs), 4th year General Curriculum major students, who guided them in performing the tasks properly and safely.

In addition, the students learned the importance of proper transplanting methods in crop production, including selecting healthy seedlings and ensuring their successful establishment in the field.

The activity provided a hands-on learning experience, allowing the students to apply their knowledge in a real field setting. Through this, they continue to develop their skills and prepare for future roles in agriculture. 🌻

The BS Agriculture major in Crop Science 3A conducted a field activity focused on abaca plantation maintenance. The activity included weeding and watering to support the healthy growth of the plants.

Following the maintenance work, the students planted different kinds of shading trees around the plantation. These trees are expected to protect the abaca from excessive sunlight and help improve soil and environmental conditions.

The activity also served as a hands-on learning experience, allowing the students to apply proper crop management practices in a real field setting. It highlighted the importance of sustainable agriculture in maintaining productive and healthy crops.

This field activity is part of the students’ ongoing training as they prepare for future roles in the field of agriculture. 🌾🧑‍🌾

This logo shows the connection between traditional agriculture and modern science. Each part has a special meaning:

1. The Green Leaf
𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: The primary subject of study, the plant.
𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: It symbolizes growth, vitality, and the environment. The vibrant green hue represents healthy crops and the goal of achieving food security through sustainable plant life.

2. The DNA Double Helix
𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: Genetic makeup and molecular biology.
𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: Located at the "vein" of the leaf, it signifies that modern crop science goes deeper than the surface. It represents innovation, plant breeding, and biotechnology. It suggests that by understanding the genetic foundation of plants, we can improve resilience, yield, and nutritional value.

3. The Circular Blue Arrows
𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: A continuous cycle or "re-cycle" movement.
𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: This represents Sustainability and the Life Cycle. It highlights the importance of renewable resources, crop rotation, and the circular economy in agriculture. The blue color often evokes water or technology, suggesting the precision management of natural resources.

4. The Earthy Brown Helix
𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡:Soil and the Earth.
𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: The use of brown within the DNA structure serves as a reminder of the grounded nature of agriculture. It represents the soil health and the essential nutrients required for the genetic potential of a crop to be realized.

5. Typography (Crop Science)
𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡: Authority and Clarity.
𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: The bold, sans-serif font conveys professionalism and modern scientific rigor. By placing it at the base, it acts as the "foundation" upon which the visual symbols stand.
