Tracing is a powerful way to practice fine motor control. Toddlers are just starting to enter the emergent writing period, when they begin to understand that writing is another way to express their thoughts.

Simple activities, such as tracing lines and shapes, can build strength and coordination between your toddler’s fingers, hands, and wrists. The more he practices, the better he’ll become at grasping his writing utensil and controlling his movements.

Tracing helps little ones refine their pre-writing skills, and builds the foundation for drawing and writing letters and words.

Tracing is an important pre-writing activity in the preschool, kindergarten and early school years to develop hand-eye coordination, pencil control, line directionality and fine motor skills for writing. Start with 'big shapes' and work through tracing patterns and finally to tracing letters.✨

When you give your toddler some straight or zig-zagged lines to trace, he'll learn the beginning steps for writing letters. Tracing can fine-tune your toddler's drawing and writing skills to provide him with more refined and coordinated movements he'll need for handwriting.⚡️

…teaching children to count involves more than helping them learn the numbers one to ten. It involves helping children understand the meaning of numbers.

Children learn the meaning of numbers when they are developmentally ready. For instance, children ages two to three might move things as they count, but they might count to three while moving four things.

This shows that while they might know the numbers in sequence, they are not able to use them to count. At this age, it's great to count together with a child, just for fun.

You might count the steps as you walk up them or the buses as they go by. This helps children begin to move towards matching one thing at a time with the number as they say it.
