𝗩𝗥𝗗𝗛𝗦 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸, 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿-𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗦𝗣𝗖 ’𝟮𝟲
Despite a shortened competition period caused by Tropical Storm Ada, Viga Rural Development High School (VRDHS) emerged as 1st Runner-Up Top Performing School (Secondary) in the 2026 Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), held at Virac Pilot Elementary School and Catanduanes State University.
Originally scheduled for a longer run, the conference was cut short to January 15-16, prompting organizers to adjust contest timelines.
The awarding ceremony was later conducted virtually, an uncommon setup for the annual journalism event.
Amid these adjustments, VRDHS delivered strong results in the school paper contest, with The Daystar placing 2nd Overall Best School Paper in English (Secondary), where the publication topped the Features, Sci-Tech, and Layout and Page Design pages, while earning podium and near-podium finishes in the Editorial, Sports, and News pages.
The school also posted strong results in individual events across English and Filipino categories, with several VRDHS campus scribes finishing in the top five.
Group events further contributed to the school’s overall standing, including a 2nd place finish in Collaborative Desktop Publishing (English) and a 4th place finish in Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting (Filipino), which also received the Best Infomercial special award.
The 2026 result marks an improvement from VRDHS’ 2nd runner-up overall finish in 2025, continuing the school’s upward trajectory since its return to the podium in 2024.
VRDHS earned the right to represent the division at the 2026 Regional Schools Press Conference in Legazpi City, Albay, with eight campus journalists, their coaches, and the English school paper entry advancing to the next level.
The DayTala delegation proudly shares its DSPC 2026 success with the community that made it possible. We extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Jennifer Marasigan Tuplano and the LGU of Viga, our school leaders - Principal Janet Manlangit Tonio, HT V Marilyn Garcia, and HT III Edna Rose Cervantes - as well as PTA President Anna Tolod Tarraya, and the dedicated parents of our scribes.
