A day worth celebrating!

We started the morning with meditation by to set us up for a mindful weekend.

We then removed 3.5 sacks of waste from the river and its banks, a big improvement over last week’s 12! We seem to be making progress as we are getting to older rubbish (ie old clothes under layers of leaves). Some newer trash of course as many people cool off in the water for summer, but folks around here are generally conscientious about their waste!

Afterwards, we shared a delicious home cooked birthday feast for prepared by and her lovely father.

How lucky we are to have this nature and community around us!

Learning often begins with the earth itself, through the quiet rhythms of planting, tending, and finally gathering what has grown. During our recent harvest activity, the students had the chance to collect Kabog (Philippine Millet) and Kadyos/Tabios (Pigeon Peas), experiencing firsthand how nature responds to care and patience.

Waldorf education values meaningful work, allowing children to use their hands, hearts, and senses as part of the learning process. Harvesting gives them a deeper understanding of where food comes from and how the land supports life, while also nurturing responsibility, cooperation, and gratitude.

In moments like this, the children discover that learning is not only found in books or classrooms, it lives in the fields, in the soil, in the small tasks that teach big lessons. These experiences help them grow with confidence, curiosity, and a genuine connection to the world around them.

This is the spirit of Tikarol: an environment where childhood connects naturally with the land, and where every experience, big or small, becomes a foundation for lifelong learning.

Storytelling is not just an activity. It is a gentle path through which children meet the world. A story offers rhythm, comfort, and warmth, inviting each child to listen deeply and imagine freely. It allows them to slow down, breathe, and enter a space where learning feels natural and alive.

As the story unfolds, you’ll see how a simple tale becomes a full sensory experience. The tone of voice, the pauses, and the calm presence create an atmosphere where children feel safe to wonder, connect, and picture the world in new ways. This is the heart of Waldorf education: learning that begins with human connection.

Every story we tell becomes a seed, one that grows into curiosity, compassion, and inner confidence. At Tikarol, we treasure these quiet moments, knowing they help build a foundation not just for learning, but for life.

Here, stories are not just heard; they are felt, lived, and carried gently into the child’s inner world.

Come and glimpse how stories shape the soul of our classroom.

Children thrive when they are free to explore the world with all their senses. Simple moments like this, crouching close to the earth, observing water plants, insects, and the quiet movements of nature, become meaningful opportunities for deep learning. Curiosity, patience, imagination, and reverence for life all begin with experiences like these.

At Tikarol Waldorf Education, nature is an essential classroom. Children are encouraged to slow down, notice the small wonders around them, and build a connection to the land that supports their growth emotionally, socially, and creatively. These unhurried encounters with the natural world help them understand themselves, develop confidence, and cultivate a sense of responsibility toward life around them.

Waldorf education offers a gentle and balanced learning environment. One that honors childhood as a time for play, discovery, and genuine connection. Through hands-on experiences, storytelling, rhythmic routines, and artistic activities, children develop not only skills, but also resilience, empathy, and inner strength.

For families seeking a gentle, holistic, and nature-rooted approach to learning, Tikarol offers a glimpse into a world where education nurtures the whole child — head, heart, and hands. 🌱❤️

GRADE 4 FRACTIONS

In our Fractions Lesson Block we start with something that is highly interesting to young kids: food! What can be more exciting than a teacher opening his lesson with a cookie, a pizza, or even a cake?

It is through the dividing of these foods into even portions for sharing that we are able to introduce in a very practical way a subject that can be quite abstract.

Using these experiences as a foundation makes it much easier for us to teach what a fraction is, how to add and subtract fractions, how to convert them into whole numbers, and even to add fractions with different denominators. None of it is ever just a concept; through the use of some simple crafts (and food!), the students see the application of the lessons in real life every step of the way.

As a child turns 9, they begin to develop an individuality of their own, and in turn, begin to see themselves as apart from their family for the first time. Learning fractions also teaches a deeper lesson— we can be an individual and also part of a whole. ❤️

(The pictures show the lesson on the blackboard, a cookie being divided, and one student’s main lesson book in which he inscribed his learnings on fractions.)
