In our Grade 6 Physics main lesson block, we began with observed phenomenon before diving into more detailed explanations.

(Also, magnets will forever be one of the coolest things to come out of the Earth!)

They swim here, explore here, play here, learn here, and return to it again and again. Cleaning up the river is a small way of helping them understand that loving a place also means they have a sacred responsibility to care for it and keep it beautiful.

We must teach the children that they are stewards of the Earth. Even as adults in these challenging times, starting with small acts of care for our abode or environment can help us when we are feeling overwhelmed.

Part of our Filipino Mythology block is a story of the Bakunawa, a legendary serpent who ate six of our seven moons, leaving only one. The people banded together and made loud noises which frightened the serpent, showing that together, the many can overcome the greatest challenges.

Mythology blocks are a time when the children can revisit the world of wonder, imagination, and magic. Because they record and story in their own books, it is also a fun and useful way to practice handwriting, spelling, and grammar, as well as cultivate their artistic abilities.

Shelling monggos, a job more enjoyable when done with classmates! Gardening is not only fun for children, but connects them to the Earth and makes them feel more capable.

We enjoyed our first harvest of thre school year yesterday from our organic garden: a blessing of monggos (Bisaya for mung bean or munggo) beans! We will be replanting some and making the rest into soup. 🙂

Harvesting and processing bean pods give the children a valuable insight into the hard work and love that goes into growing and preparing food.

A new school year has begun!

At Tikarol, each child is welcomed individually with a rose and a story—a simple tradition that reminds us that every child is received as a unique person, with their own gifts and path to unfold.

Thank you to our families for joining us this year! We look forward to sharing stories, songs, handwork, play, seeds, food, festivals… and of course, river swims!

🌟 Midsummer Solstice or Araw ng San Juan 🌟

The longest day of the year also marks the shortening of days. As the world becomes darker, it is important to kindle the light of courage within us.

Join the Tikarol community for an afternoon of songs, games, friendship, and a bonfire celebration as we mark the beginning of our third year together. We look forward to welcoming both old friends and new families to our campus.
