The Granary’s screening for aspiring campus journalists officially began yesterday, attracting many student writers eager to showcase their skills, creativity, and passion for journalism.

The screening aims to discover promising young journalists who are ready to lend their voices, tell meaningful stories, and become part of 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆, the official student publication of Valencia National High School.

𝗔 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗕𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗠𝗦

𝗔 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝗝𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗔. 𝗗𝘂𝗰𝗮𝗼

A w**d is just a w**d.

To some, it is a pest something that takes advantage of the soil, the water, and the nutrients meant for the plants we chose to grow. We pull it out because it does not belong in the garden we imagined.

But what about the w**d?

It has life, too.

It needs the same basic nourishment as everything else that grows, only it does not receive the same care. No one prepares the soil for it. No one waters it deliberately. No one worries when its leaves begin to wilt. It simply takes what little it can find and lives.

And somehow, it thrives.

Pull it out, cut it down, forget about it and somewhere, somehow, it finds a way to grow again. Resilient. Strong. Unbothered.

When you forget about it long enough, it grows tall. Perhaps, instinctively, it knows that it must enjoy life while you are busy tending to everything else. Perhaps it knows that one day you will notice it again, and when you do, you may strike it down.

So while it can, it grows.

And then, quietly, it blooms.

A beautiful little flower appears, whether anyone is there to admire it or not. It does not wait for appreciation before becoming beautiful. It does not ask to be chosen. It does not begrudge the flowers that receive more water, better soil, and gentler hands.

It simply lives the life it has been given.

There is something beautiful about that.

The w**d seems to understand what we so easily forget: life is short. You may not always grow where you are wanted. You may not receive the same care as others. You may be overlooked, uprooted, or considered insignificant.

Still, while there is life, there is a reason to grow.

While there is time, there is a reason to bloom.

And perhaps that little flower on a w**d is its quiet way of saying:

I was here. I lived. And even for a little while, I was beautiful.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿

The school reaffirmed its commitment to responsible and meaningful campus journalism during the School Publication Turnover Ceremony and Convergence of School Publication Advisers, held on 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟭𝟳, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, under the theme, "Passing the Pen, Shaping the Future: A Convergence of School Publication Advisers Towards Excellence in Campus Journalism."

The activity brought together school publication advisers and the newly selected members of the campus publication as they formally welcomed a new editorial board that will lead the publication for the school year. More than a turnover of positions, the event served as a reminder of the important role campus journalists play in informing the school community, promoting truth, and giving students a voice.

The convergence also provided publication advisers an opportunity to reconnect, exchange ideas, and strengthen their shared commitment to developing young journalists. Through their guidance, student writers are equipped not only with technical skills in writing and reporting but also with the values of fairness, accuracy, responsibility, and integrity.

The program was made even more meaningful through the strong support of School Principal IV 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗔. 𝗖𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗼, who has always been a firm believer in the value of campus journalism. Recognizing its role in developing critical thinking, leadership, and communication skills among learners, she continues to encourage initiatives that strengthen the school's publication and provide opportunities for aspiring student journalists to grow and excel.

As the new editorial board officially accepted the responsibility of leading the publication, they also accepted the challenge of continuing the legacy left by those who came before them. They now carry the responsibility of telling stories that matter, reporting facts with honesty, and using their platform to inform and inspire the school community.

With dedicated advisers, supportive school leadership, and passionate student journalists working together, the school remains committed to building a campus publication that values truth, upholds ethical journalism, and serves the interests of its learners.

As one batch passes the pen to the next, the mission remains the same to write with purpose, report with integrity, and continue shaping a future where campus journalism thrives.
