As a Sociology Students, we are taught to see beyond ourselves. In times of conflict, let us remember what C. Wright Mills reminded us—that our thoughts and actions are shaped by our experiences and the society around us.

So when someone disagrees with you, pause. Their perspective is not just opinion—it is a product of their story.

Conflict is normal, as explained by Karl Marx, but how we respond to it defines us. We can choose to react with pride, or respond with understanding.

And as George Herbert Mead taught us, meaning comes from interaction. This means listening is powerful. When we truly listen, we begin to understand.

So I ask you: be open-minded. Be patient. Be willing to see beyond your own view.
