Mr. Art Tolentino, a fifth-year student from Phinma Upang College Urdaneta, in collaboration with his adviser Ar. Jeffrey E. Dela Cruz, recently presented their research titled “Context-sensitive Assessment of Tourism Carrying Capacity Fostering Sustainable Tourism: the Case of the Surfing Capital of the North” to the Local Government Unit of San Juan, La Union, led by Hon. Mayor Mariquita P. Ortega.

The study meticulously examines the local carrying capacity of San Juan, focusing on the beachfront of Kabsat La Union as the primary site for data collection. The research aims to provide insights into how the municipality can sustainably manage its tourism activities to prevent overexploitation of natural resources while promoting economic growth.

The Local Government Unit expressed their strong support for the research findings, affirming that these are highly relevant to the ongoing development of San Juan's tourism industry. They acknowledged the importance of implementing sustainable practices to preserve the town’s natural attractions and cultural heritage. Furthermore, the LGU committed to continuing its support for research initiatives that contribute to the betterment of San Juan La Union, emphasizing their dedication to fostering sustainable and responsible tourism for future generations.

𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐦𝐚 𝐔𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐔𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐚 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲

Last March 24, 2026, at the Upper Room, dedicated architecture students—mentored by adviser Ar. Jeffrey E. Dela Cruz—presented their individual research findings aimed at advancing urban development and sustainability in Urdaneta City. Their studies focused on Urban Management, addressing Land Use Shift and Urban Heat Island effects, enhancing Urban Mobility, and proposing innovative concepts to reimagine the 20th-century library and develop a Multimodal Transport Hub to improve connectivity and public service accessibility.

The event was part of their effort to contribute meaningful solutions for the city’s growth and resilience. Presenters Mr. Arvin John Dimamay, Ms. Princess Khyle Gazzingan, Ms. Jay Ann Francisco, Ms. Fana Dayn Bataoil, and Eidelle Mae Nebrija engaged with key LGU representatives—including Engr. Sherlito Oliveros, Lee Anthony Ander, Bernadine M. Gravela, Melanie Tabayonyong, and Gemma Yadao—to foster collaboration and support ongoing urban development initiatives. This initiative reflects the students’ commitment to applying their knowledge for the sustainable progress and betterment of Urdaneta City.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire LGU of Urdaneta City (Official), especially to Mayor Julio RAMMY Parayno III, for supporting this collaborative effort towards Mayaten tatta Urdaneta!

Ms. Jay Ann Francisco, a 5th-year Architecture student from Phinma Upang College Urdaneta, presents her research titled "Evaluating the Implementation of Accessibility Law in Selected School Buildings in Urdaneta City." The study assesses the design and functionality of public and private school facilities to ensure compliance with Batas Pambansa Blg. 344 (BP 344) for a more inclusive educational environment.

The event, held on March 23, 2026, at 9:00 AM in the new DepEd SDO Urdaneta City building, was attended by department personnel led by Dr. Ma. Criselda G., Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, along with Dr. Mario E. Campilla, Chief Education Supervisor; Ma’am Mylyn M. Alejandro, Senior Education Program Specialist; and also present were Engr. Jaime C. Marcos, Mr. Rafael C. Rabago, and Ms. Diana Jen M. Ariola.

Ms. Francisco was accompanied by his adviser, Ar. Jeffrey Dela Cruz, Architecture Faculty; Program Head Ar. Mark Jeffrerson Callanta, Architecture Department Chair; and Ar. Reynante Mislang, Faculty Member.

This historic event marked the first such proceeding for the institution’s pioneering batch of fifth-year architecture students.

The students presented research projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, showcasing their academic rigor and commitment to sustainable practices.

Congratulations to Arvin John D. Dimamay and Princess Khyle A. Gazzingan for excelling in their Architecture studies and being finalists at the Asian Architects in the Academe Assembly 2026! They will also be presenting their work at the UAP National Convention on April 14-15, in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education and the Philippine Architecture Schools Association. 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗡 | PHINMA UPang Urdaneta 5th Year Architecture students were awarded 𝘽𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙋𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙧 at the 3rd National Research Congress held in Zamboanga City on October 10, 2025.

The delegates proudly presented their research at this prestigious event organized by Universidad de Zamboanga in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education.

In addition, PHINMA UPang College Urdaneta received the 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 for its exceptional contributions to research advancement.
