Mr. Reynaldo Verbo, a Mechanical Technology faculty of CIT participates in an elite Trainer's Training program on the construction and maintenance of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) boats. The training is from July 15-25, 2024, at the DA-BFAR boat construction and maintenance facility in the fish port complex of Barangay NBBN, Navotas.
This initiative brought together experts from five state universities across the Philippines. This was generously sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Interior's International Technical Assistance Program, the U.S. Department of State's International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, the Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), Tanggol Kalikasan, and the Institute of Environmental Governance.
The primary objective of the training is to equip participants with advanced skills in the fabrication and upkeep of FRP boats, a critical technology for enhancing the durability and sustainability of fishing vessels. The culmination of the training is expected to be the construction of six FRP boats, which will be distributed to selected beneficiaries.
Mr. Verbo was joined by three other representatives from CSU namely: Engr. Joseph Cabalbag, Engr. Leomar Juliano, AR. Edmund Dela Cruz, forming part of a select group of 24 participants. This group is comprised of five representatives each from Isabela State University, Southern Luzon State University, Aurora State College of Technology, and Camarines Norte State College.
The inclusion of Mr. Verbo and his CSU colleagues in this national training program highlights the university's dedication to enhancing its faculty's expertise and its active participation in nation-building initiatives. The skills and knowledge gained from this training are expected to cascade down to CSU students, ultimately benefiting the wider community through improved educational outcomes and technological applications.
