CSU-COEA Named Finalist in the 16th Annual Research Awards 2026
The College of Engineering and Architecture (COEA) of Cagayan State University has been named a finalist in the Outstanding Research for Commercialization Category of the 16th Annual Research Awards (ARAW) 2026, competing against entries from public and private higher education institutions across the Philippines, with the theme “Empowering the Rising Minds to Harness Smart and Inclusive Emerging Solutions for a Climate-Resilient Society.”
The recognition was earned through the research project titled “Smart Agri-Gate with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for Irrigation Canal Operations,” conducted by student researchers from the Electrical Engineering Department under the guidance of their adviser, Engr. Michael B. Orpilla, a faculty member of the department.
As finalists, the student researchers will present their study during the ARAW 2026 Oral Research Presentation on August 20, 2026, at Bulwagang Balagtas, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Sta. Mesa, Manila.
The Annual Research Awards (ARAW), organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), is a nationwide academic competition open to engineering students from public and private higher education institutions. The competition aims to recognize and celebrate outstanding student research, innovative technologies, and commercially viable engineering solutions that contribute to nation-building and sustainable development.

Engr. John Michael B. Casibang, University Dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture, received the award on behalf of Cagayan State University (CSU) – Carig from the Professional Regulatory Board of Electrical Engineering for ranking 6th place (with 30 or more examinees and at least 85% passing percentage) in the April 2026 Registered Electrical Engineers Licensure Examination.
The university posted an exemplary passing performance of 86.84%, placing it among the top-performing schools, colleges, and universities nationwide.
The recognition was awarded during the oath-taking ceremony held on June 14, 2026, in Pasay City.

COEA Shines at CSU’s 48th Founding Anniversary Celebration
The College of Engineering and Architecture received plaques of recognition for its outstanding achievements in producing national topnotchers in the previous Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical Engineering Licensure Examinations during the 48th Founding Anniversary celebration themed “CSU: 48 Years of Excellence, The Journey to Gold,” held at the CSU Carig Campus on June 10–11, 2026. This was followed by the awarding of incentives to the topnotchers of the recently concluded Chemical Engineering Licensure Examination.
Meanwhile, Engr. Ralph Angelo B. Estiller was recognized for his contribution to the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) through his entry, “Pagurufunan para ta Progreso: A Community-Driven Pathway to Inclusive and Sustainable Development,” which earned Rank 99.
Faculty members of the college also received Loyalty Awards in recognition of their dedicated and continuous service to the government and the university. The awardees were: Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez – 40 Years of Service; Dr. Bernard D. Bisuecos – 10 Years of Service; Dr. Anderson G. Gonzales – 10 Years of Service; Engr. Rose Jean B. Oñate – 10 Years of Service; and Ms. Nida D. Embana – 20 Years of Service.
In addition, Ms. Natividad M. Javier, College Maintenance Personnel, received recognition as a nominee for the University Outstanding Administrative Staff – Building and Grounds Maintenance Staff of the Year Award. This acknowledgment reflects her dedicated service and commitment to the university.
These achievements highlight the collective efforts of the faculty, staff, students, and graduates of the College of Engineering and Architecture under the leadership of Engr. John Michael B. Casibang, University Dean. The college remains steadfast in its pursuit of academic excellence, professional competence, and service to the community.

A total of 346 candidates for graduation from the College of Engineering and Architecture are set to graduate tomorrow, May 27, 2026.
The graduating students comprise the Architecture and different Engineering programs of the college, marking another milestone in CSU-COEA’s commitment to producing competent and globally competitive professionals.
