Chasing Dreams Against All Odds
On July 3, 2026, the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of Sta. Teresita District, based at Sta. Teresita Central School, successfully conducted its Graduation and Moving-Up Ceremonies at the Barangay Simpatuyo Gymnasium. The momentous occasion brought together ALS graduates and completers, their families, teachers, education leaders, local government officials, and community partners in a meaningful celebration of academic achievement, resilience, and hope.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Municipal Mayor Atty. Rodrigo "Rambo" P. De Gracia of Sta. Teresita, Cagayan, together with barangay officials, Education Program Supervisors, Public Schools District Supervisor, school heads, teachers, and other distinguished guests. Their attendance reflected the unwavering support of the Local Government Unit and the Department of Education in advancing inclusive, accessible, and quality education for every learner, regardless of age or circumstance.
Guided by this year's graduation theme, "Filipino Graduates Prepared to Lead with Competence and Character," the celebration honored the remarkable journeys of ALS learners who courageously pursued education despite overwhelming obstacles. Many of them balanced employment, family responsibilities, financial difficulties, and personal struggles while striving to complete their studies. Their success demonstrated that determination, discipline, and perseverance can overcome even the most challenging situations, inspiring others to believe that no dream is ever beyond reach.
A significant highlight of the program was the Presentation and Confirmation of the Graduates and Completers, led by Sta. Teresita Central School Principal Wayne M. Dacumos and Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS) Reynaldo D. Ronquillo. The formal confirmation recognized the graduates' successful completion of their respective educational levels and symbolized the fulfillment of years of hard work, sacrifice, and commitment.
Behind every graduate's success were two dedicated educators whose passion for teaching transformed lives. ALS teachers Judy B. Labsang and Crisanto C. Puruel were recognized for their unwavering commitment, patience, and selfless service in guiding the learners throughout their educational journey. Beyond delivering lessons, they became mentors, motivators, and sources of hope, empowering every learner to believe in their potential and persevere despite life's challenges.
The ceremony became even more meaningful through the inspiring message delivered by Airwoman Second Class (AW2) Ruth C. Antonio of the Philippine Air Force, herself a proud 2015 ALS passer. Drawing from her own experiences, she reminded the graduates that completing education through ALS is not a limitation but a remarkable achievement that reflects resilience, determination, and strength of character. She encouraged them to continue dreaming boldly, embrace lifelong learning, and pursue excellence with integrity, humility, and confidence. Her inspiring testimony served as a powerful reminder that the ALS pathway opens doors to limitless opportunities and that every learner has the capacity to succeed regardless of where life begins.
One of the most inspiring moments of the ceremony was the recognition of two (2) Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the Sta. Teresita District Jail, who successfully completed their Junior High School education through the Alternative Learning System. Their achievement stood as a powerful testament that education remains a beacon of hope and transformation, even behind concrete walls and iron bars. Their success affirmed that incarceration does not diminish one's ability to learn, grow, and aspire for a better future.
The ceremony was further strengthened by the presence of representatives from the Sta. Teresita District Jail, headed by JSINSP Kingsly G. Tumaliuan, together with SJO1 Concepcion Silos, Chief of the Welfare and Development (WD) Section. Their participation underscored the Bureau's continuing commitment to rehabilitation through education, recognizing that learning is a powerful catalyst for personal transformation and positive change.
The ALS Sta. Teresita District Class of 2026 has proven that true success is measured not by the path one takes, but by the determination to keep moving forward despite every obstacle. Their inspiring journey serves as a beacon of hope for countless others who continue to dream of a better life through education.
Their graduation is not the end of their journey—it is the beginning of greater aspirations, brighter opportunities, and a future filled with endless possibilities.
