𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞.

Language is inherently dynamic and beautifully chaotic. It changes because speakers change it. Words live because communities use them.

So, if the speech community agrees that the round citrus fruit known as “orange” shall now be called Sharmaine, then who are we, humble English majors, to resist linguistic evolution?

After all, language is not a museum piece; it is alive, breathing, and memeing. What matters in language is not whether a word sounds “official” at first, but whether people understand and accept it in actual use.

Therefore, by the powers vested in us by phonology, lexicon, morphology, grammar, semantics, pragmatics, and collective unseriousness, GEMS recognizes Sharmaine as a valid lexical item in the ever-expanding vocabulary of Filipino internet discourse.

Orange? Traditional.

Sharmaine? Innovative. Contextual. Communicatively effective.

Language evolves. Meaning is negotiated. Speakers decide.

And today, the speakers have spoken: Pabili po ng isang kilong Sharmaine. 🍊

In Loving Memory of Pat. Jeremiah C. Angeles
BSED English Batch 2019

The Guild of English Major Students (GEMS) mourns the passing of its beloved alumnus, Pat. Jeremiah C. Angeles.

He will be remembered not only as a joyful presence and a friend to many, but also as a faithful soul who brought people closer to God. To his classmates, he was the social butterfly who spoke with everyone, the prayer leader who offered comfort during difficult days, and the friend who carried a guitar to fill gatherings with worship and hope. In moments when others struggled, Jeremiah became a gentle reminder of faith, kindness, and fellowship.

His life, though now mourned, remains a testimony of love, friendship, and devotion. The light he shared with his classmates, friends, and the GEMS community will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Rest in God’s embrace, Sir Jeremiah. Your GEMS family remembers you with love, gratitude, and prayer.

This year’s BSEd English graduating class takes pride in its 32 academic awardees, composed of two (2) magna cm laude, five (5) cm laude, fifteen (15) academic distinction, and ten (10) with merit.

𝐌𝐫. 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐌. 𝐃𝐮𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐳 stood out as the top graduate of this year’s College of Teacher Education graduating class, alongside 𝐌𝐫. 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐳𝐚𝐞𝐬𝐚𝐫 𝐁. 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐬 , who also earned the distinction of magna cm laude.

Please be informed that this is the updated list of qualified first-year applicants for the BSED English Program, including the additional qualifiers from the 2nd batch.

All qualified applicants are advised to complete their pre-enrollment through the CSU Portal. Please note that there is no need to visit the CSU Andrews Campus in person, as the enrollment process is conducted entirely online.
