SDRRM and PEERS Club Successfully Conduct LIGTAS TALK 2026

The School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) Club and PEERS Club successfully conducted LIGTAS TALK 2026, with the theme “Ligtas na Paaralan, Ligtas na Isipan, Buhay na Pinapahalagahan.” Held during September, Su***de Prevention Month, the symposium aimed to promote mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and strengthen students’ knowledge about safety, preparedness, and responsible action.

One of the featured discussions, led by Ma’am Maida Troyo, focused on su***de intervention, emphasizing the importance of recognizing warning signs, offering support, and encouraging individuals to seek help from trusted people and appropriate professionals.

The symposium also featured a discussion on School Safety and Disaster Preparedness, led by SDRRM Coordinator Sir Archibald Canicula, highlighting the importance of being prepared before, during, and after emergencies. Students learned about safety measures, emergency response, disaster preparedness, and the role of teamwork in creating a safer school community.

Through informative discussions and active participation, the symposium emphasized that safety is not only about protecting ourselves from disasters but also about caring for one another and valuing every life. It encouraged students to become more aware, prepared, compassionate, and responsible members of the school community.

The collaboration between the SDRRM and PEERS Club demonstrated the school’s commitment to promoting both physical safety and mental well-being. LIGTAS TALK 2026 served as a meaningful reminder that a safe school begins with a prepared mind, a caring community, and a commitment to value life.

PRESS RELEASE
DOST-PAGASA S&T Media Services
Quezon City, 23 September 2026

DOST-PAGASA warns of an intensifying Very Strong El Niño through the first half of 2027.

A Strong El Niño is currently active in the Tropical Pacific and is expected to intensify into a Very Strong El Niño between September–December 2026, potentially persisting through the first half of 2027.

For the Philippines, this may bring warmer temperatures and below-normal rainfall, increasing the risk of dry spells, drought, and water supply stress that could affect agriculture, food security, energy, public health, and the economy.

However, El Niño does not mean that rain will completely stop. The ongoing Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and active tropical cyclones may still bring short-term heavy rainfall, particularly over the western sections of the country.

Prepare for prolonged dryness, but remain vigilant for episodes of heavy rainfall.

During scheduled power interruptions, MCOs using generators are reminded to never connect the generator directly to the outlet or CAGELCO I distribution line. Use a proper transfer switch or double throw switch and ensure safe installation by a registered electrician.
Never backfeed power into the distribution line—it can endanger the lives of lineworkers.

All works maybe finished ahead of time and power maybe restored earlier than scheduled, so please consider our lines energized.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
