In Genesis, gold is first revealed in the land of Havilah, encircled by the river Pishon: ‘And the gold of that land is good.’ (Genesis 2:11–12). From the days of Adam and Eve to our digital age, gold has remained a rare and incorruptible treasure.

Science identifies it as Au on the Periodic Table, from the Latin Aurum. Its extraordinary properties make it the most malleable and ductile metal — a single ounce can stretch into 50 miles of wire or be beaten into sheets thin enough for light to pass through. With a melting point of 1,064 °C and a boiling point near 2,966 °C, gold resists rust, tarnish, and corrosion, dissolving only in aqua regia.

Beyond symbolizing royalty and wealth, gold serves humanity in profound ways: powering computers, enriching cuisine as a safe luxury garnish, and healing through medical compounds. Truly, gold bridges faith and science — a gift both eternal in Scripture and indispensable in modern life.

On August 26, 2026, a massive debris flow and flash flood struck areas along the Nepal–China border, causing widespread destruction to communities, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.

The disaster was primarily caused by a sudden glacier collapse, also known as an ice avalanche, near Langtang Lirung. A huge amount of ice and rock broke away from the glacier at a high elevation and fell approximately 1.2 kilometers into the valley. The enormous impact generated meltwater and displaced river water, while the falling material carried ice, rocks, soil, and sediment downstream. This created a powerful debris flow and flash flood that traveled for up to about 100 kilometers.

Although a Ms 5.2 seismic event was detected, scientific analysis showed that the seismic signal was generated by the glacier collapse itself, rather than being a tectonic earthquake that triggered the disaster.

“It's confirmed that a substantial portion of glacier snout collapsed to initiate the event - probably including the or entraining a fair amount of rock and sediment, ” Vikram Gupta said - Engineering Geology Specialist.

The event demonstrates how rising temperatures can increase glacier instability and contribute to natural disasters. As temperatures rise, glaciers lose ice through increased melting, which can weaken and destabilize the glacier and the surrounding rock. This can make large sections of ice and rock more likely to collapse suddenly. In Nepal, the collapse near Langtang Lirung released a massive amount of ice and rock, which mixed with water and sediment as it moved downhill, producing a destructive debris flow and flash flood. Thus, climate warming can act as a long-term factor that increases the vulnerability of glaciers to sudden collapse and related hazards.

The disaster resulted 1,429 deaths, 6.827 injuries, and 5,6429 missing persons, while also causing extensive damage to property and infrastructure.

Jesus has brought us here because we have a Great Commission that we are called to fulfill. As Matthew 28:19 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” This reminds us that God has a purpose for each of us. We need to trust Him, follow His plans, and obey His commands. No matter what challenges we face, we can always take refuge in Him and have faith that He will guide us toward the purpose He has prepared for us.

Genesis 2:21–22 tells the account of how God took one of Adam’s ribs and created Eve. This has sometimes led to the belief that men have one fewer rib than women.

🔬 But science tells us that this is not true. Humans typically have 24 ribs, or 12 pairs, regardless of s*x. Men and women do not normally differ in the number of ribs they have.

Our ribs form the rib cage, which protects vital organs such as the heart and lungs and also helps support breathing.

Interestingly, some people are born with more or fewer than 24 ribs because of natural genetic or developmental variations. For example, a person may have an extra cervical rib near the neck, rare bone that grows from the seventh vertebra in the neck, just above the normal first rib and collarbone. While certain rare conditions can cause ribs to be missing or fused. For expample, Spondylothoracic dysplasia.
Spondylothoracic dysplasia is an autosomal recessive condition. It’s also known as spondylothoracic dysostosis. Babies born with this condition have fused ribs and fused vertebrae. They also have very small chest cavities, which can cause severe problems with breathing.

📖 Genesis gives us the biblical account of creation, while 🔬 anatomy shows us the fascinating reality of the human rib cage.

Fun Fact: A person can have approximately 90,000–150,000 scalp hairs. Estimates vary by hair color: around 150,000 for blond hair, 110,000 for brown hair, 100,000 for black hair, and 90,000 for red hair.

With approximately 150,000 hairs on our scalp, Luke 12:7 gives a beautiful reminder: if God knows even the number of hairs on our head, we can trust that He knows, values, and cares for every one of us. 🙏
