For more than ten years, silence occupied a space in the records of the University of Cagayan Valley’s Nursing Program. Year after year, students entered classrooms carrying ambitions in their hearts. Year after year, they graduated with stories of sacrifice, resilience, and determination. But one distinction remained absent — No Cum Laude.

Many believed it was simply a statistic. A gap in the records. A number quietly buried in time. But for Mr. Jupiter Domingo, it became an opportunity to prove that excellence is never defined by circumstance, reputation, or expectations.

In 2026, Mr. Domingo made history by becoming the first Nursing Cum Laude of the College of Health in over a decade. A milestone that was not merely a personal triumph, but a symbol of renewed possibilities for future generations of nursing students. His achievement stands as a powerful reminder that greatness is not reserved for a select few. It belongs to those who persevere.

During his graduation address of thanks, he reflected on the doubts he encountered throughout his educational journey. Like many students, he faced questions about his choices, his school, and his future. Yet instead of allowing those doubts to define him, he chose to let his achievements speak for themselves.

After years of dedication, sacrifice, and relentless pursuit of excellence, he accomplished what had not been achieved in the Nursing Program for more than ten years. Yet despite the significance of the recognition, he remained grounded. Rather than viewing the distinction as a personal victory alone, he described it as “𝒂𝒏 𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒂 𝒓𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔.”

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐦, 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐂𝐮𝐦 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭. 𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭.

His achievement sends a message to every nursing student who may doubt their capabilities, every dreamer who feels overlooked, and every young person who believes their circumstances limit their potential.

Excellence can flourish anywhere.
Excellence can begin anywhere.
And excellence can belong to anyone willing to work for it.

Today, Mr. Domingo’s name is etched into the history of the College of Health not simply because he graduated with honors, but because he reignited belief in what is possible. More importantly, he leaves behind a challenge for those who will follow after him — to dream bigger, reach higher, and continue the legacy he helped revive.

As he reminded his fellow graduates during one of the most memorable moments of his speech:

This study aims to examine how the nursing program of UCV has contributed to the employment outcomes, career advancement, and professional growth of its graduates. ‎This study aims to examine the employment status, professional growth, and career trajectories of nursing alumni after graduation, as well as the relevance of their nursing education to their current professional practice. Moreover, the study seeks to evaluate how the UCV nursing program has prepared graduates for local and global healthcare practice and to provide evidence that may support curriculum enhancement, institutional planning, and policy development.
