Ready to hop on another journey of learning with #𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗮𝗻?
Today, we turn our attention to a plant that is fierce in form, rare in nature, and truly Filipino. 🇵🇭✨

For this week’s feature, we highlight a remarkable 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 that showcases the unique beauty of our country’s forests—found only in the 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀. 😯🌿

✨🌿 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 ( 𝘈𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 ) 🌿✨

The Kris Plant is famous for its long, pointed leaves marked by striking white veins and wavy, blade-like edges. Its strong and dramatic appearance resembles the traditional kris sword, symbolizing strength and heritage. 🗡️🍃

This extraordinary plant is native to 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼, where it grows in 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 with 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. It flourishes in moist soil and warm climates, making it perfectly adapted to our tropical environment. 🌴🌦️

Unfortunately, the Kris Plant is now listed as 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱. 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, and 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 have greatly reduced its natural population. 😢🌱 Without proper protection, this iconic species may disappear from the wild.

The Kris Plant teaches us that even the strongest-looking plants need care and protection. 🌿✨

Have you seen a white butterfly flying around our school garden? Well, you might have seen the 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗹𝘆!😯🦋✨

The 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗹𝘆 (𝘊𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘱𝘺𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘦) is a graceful and eye-catching butterfly commonly seen in the Philippines and other tropical parts of Asia! It belongs to the 𝗣𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗲 family, the group known for white and yellow butterflies. This species is especially admired for its clean colors and gentle flight!🤲🏻🪽✨

The mottled emigrant has 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲, 𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘆 𝘆𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. On the upper side, the wings look smooth and bright, but when the butterfly closes its wings, you can see 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 underneath—this is where it gets the name “mottled emigrant.” title. 😯🦋🤍

This butterfly is often found in 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘀, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀, 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀, 𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀. Mottled emigrant butterfly prefers sunny, open areas where flowers and plants are abundant!🌸🌷

The mottled emigrant is known for its 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄, 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, which looks calm and unhurried. Sometimes, large numbers of these butterflies can be seen flying together, especially during seasonal movements, which is why they are called “emigrants.”✨🤩

The mottled emigrant butterfly plays an important role in nature. As it feeds on nectar from flowers, it helps with 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which supports plant growth and healthy ecosystems. Its presence is also a sign of a balanced environment.🌿🦋

Overall, the mottled emigrant butterfly is a beautiful and peaceful insect that adds life and movement to the Philippine landscape. Its gentle colors, slow flight, and important role in nature make it a fascinating species to observe and learn about! 🦋🤍✨

Fungi and bacteria are like nature’s cleanup crew! They break down dead plants, leaves, and other organic matter, turning them into nutrients like nitrogen that help new plants grow and thrive. This process keeps the soil healthy and the ecosystem balanced.

These tiny helpers aren’t picky—they can even decompose unusual things like glue, paint, and jet fuel over time. Without them, dead matter would pile up, and new plants would struggle to grow. So next time you see mushrooms or notice fungi at work, remember—they are quiet heroes keeping our planet alive and healthy! 🌱🍄

Before we dive in, let’s get to know one of the coolest and most unique butterflies on Earth. Ready to learn something new? Let’s go! 🐟

𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗸𝗮 𝗽𝘆𝗴𝗺𝗮𝗲𝗮 (𝘋𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘧 𝘗𝘺𝘨𝘮𝘺 𝘎𝘰𝘣𝘺)

Pandaka pygmaea is one of the smallest fishes in the world. It belongs to the goby family and can grow only about 1.1–1.5 cm long. Because of its tiny body, it is almost transparent and very hard to see.

This fish is native to the Philippines, especially in shallow waters like rivers, mangroves, and brackish areas. It was first found in Malabon River, but because of pollution and habitat changes, it might not be found there anymore. It can also be found in shallow seas near islands like Culion in Palawan.

The Dwarf Pygmy Goby lives near the bottom of the water and feeds on very small organisms. It prefers tropical water and survives best in clean environments.

Even though it is tiny, it is important to biodiversity. The presence of this species shows that the water is healthy. But today, scientists are still unsure about its exact population, so it is listed as Data Deficient under conservation status.

This week, we shine a light on one of our country’s 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗲𝗺𝘀— a mountain lily found 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀. 😯🌸

✨🌿 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝘆 ( 𝘓𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘶𝘮 𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦 ) 🌿✨

Standing tall with its graceful white trumpet-shaped flowers, the Philippine Lily blooms in the cool highlands of Northern Luzon, particularly in Benguet and nearby mountain regions. Its delicate appearance hides its remarkable strength, as it thrives in rocky, windswept slopes where few other plants survive. 🌤️⛰️

This lily is known for its 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀, and a sweet fragrance that attracts pollinators. Its beauty has long been admired, but sadly, it is now considered threatened due to habitat loss, land conversion, and unregulated collection. 😢🌱

Plants like the Philippine Lily remind us that nature’s treasures are often fragile. 🌿✨
