𝗖𝗼𝗘𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁’𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗮𝗯

A faculty member from the College of Education won the Best Presenter award under the Humanities Cluster in the 3rd International Research Conference hosted by the University of the Visayas Main Campus on August 19-20, 2026.

Jhay-ar A. Book presented his team’s paper, titled “Understanding the Influence of Translanguaging on Student Learning: A Qualitative Inquiry,” on August 19. The paper is co-authored by Jorenie A. Alfante, Joan M. Alqueza, Ester D. Cajocson, Renante M. Gamboa, and Niel Fujil B. Eguna.

The study explored the lived experiences of students on translanguaging as a pedagogical tool in the learning and teaching processes in multilingual classrooms.

“Personally, I’ve been interested in finding out the influence of translanguaging as a pedagogical practice used in conceptual understanding and learning engagement among multilingual students through the lens of those who really experienced it. Beyond what has already been published, my co-authors and I have uncovered several valuable findings,” Book said.

All the accepted papers in the conference were classified across seven diverse clusters: Cluster A: Business and Management, Cluster B: Education, Cluster C: Engineering and Design, Cluster D: AI and Emerging Technologies, Cluster E: Medical and Allied Health Sciences, Cluster F: Social Sciences, and Cluster G: Humanities.

“The award was just a bonus, a validation of some sort for all the hard work my fellow researchers and I have put into completing the paper. In fact, the paper was completed three days before the deadline, so I only had a few days to prepare for the presentation,” Book said.

“My greatest award though was meeting the who’s who in the field of language research. It was an opportunity to listen to their feedback. To God be the glory,” he added.

The research conference was attended by international and local researchers, students, private and public school teachers, professors, and technology experts.

The University of the Visayas reminds all students to observe the prescribed uniform, footwear, identification, and grooming guidelines as part of maintaining discipline and professional conduct within the academic community.

The guidelines will take effect on:

• August 18, 2026 – Continuing Students
• September 8, 2026 – New and Transferee Students

Students are reminded to observe the following:

• Wear the prescribed school uniform of your respective college or program.

• Wear only closed black shoes with appropriate socks.

• Wear your University Identification Card visibly at all times while on campus.

• Maintain a neat and professional appearance. For male students, hair must be above the collar. Hair dyeing is not allowed.

All students are encouraged to comply with these guidelines and help maintain the standards of the University of the Visayas.
