"Madalas maaga talaga akong gumigising kasi before ako magfocus sa school, may mga responsibilities din ako sa bahay at sa pamilya. Time management is very important to me kasi hindi lang teacher yung role ko, kundi nanay at asawa rin ako."

Parang "accidental teacher" ako as they say," pag-amin niya. I decided na mag stay and mag focus sa family, and at the same time, gusto ko magamit ang knowledge and experiences. That's why I decided to stay and work in the academe."

At sa unang araw niya sa classroom, tulad ng isang first year student sa unang tapak sa pinto ng silid-aralan kinakabahan din siya.

"May excitement at kaba. Noong first time kong pumasok sa classroom, ang daming tanong sa isip ko. Makikinig kaya sila? Maiintindihan kaya nila yung lessons ko? Kakayanin ko ba โ€˜to?"

Sa likod ng pisara, may isang g**o na nagdududa sa kaniyang sarili ngunit patuloy na lumalaban at natututong maniwala sa kaniyang sarili. Ang mga kaba na unti-unting nawawala at napalitan ng isang reyalisasyon: "Yes, this is something I can do."

"Sometimes, they may see me as a strict teacher, but I do it because I care for them. I want them to learn discipline, honesty, and responsibility because these are the values they will need in their future careers and in life", saad ni ma'am.

To all the teachers out there,

We wish you an extremely Happy Teachers' Day! We cannot thank you enough for all the hard work you put into teaching and guiding us. You not only teach us new knowledge and skills, but you also help us become better people by teaching us valuable life lessons. You have taught us so many things beyond our studies. From learning about life to thinking independently and becoming more knowledgeable.

You have been more than just teachers to us. You have also been our guide and mentor in life, always willing to listen to our problems and give us good advice whenever we need it. We would not have achieved everything we have accomplished without your support and hard work.

We feel so fortunate to have you in our lives. Happy Teacher's Day!

โ€ŽFor Maria Welma C. Clataro, an 18-year-old student from Malalison Island, the answer is simple: keep going.

โ€ŽA first year Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship student at the University of Antiqueโ€“Tario Lim Memorial Campus (UA-TLMC), Maria carries a dream bigger than the distance between her island and her classroom. Behind her simple life as a student is a story of sacrifice, courage, and a family determined to give her a better future.

โ€ŽMaria chose to study in Tibiao not only because of the education it offers, but because it also allows her to return home to Malalison and lessen her family's expenses.

โ€ For Maria, every peso saved matters.

โ€ŽHer journey became even more difficult after losing her father a year ago. Since then, her mother and brother have been the people who continued to support her education. Her brother works hard, including fishing, to sustain her schooling, while her mother remains one of her strongest sources of support.

โ€ŽTheir sacrifices became Maria's reason to work harder.

She dreams of becoming a business owner someday. Not only to build a life for herself, but to help the family that continues to stand behind her.

โ€ But the road towards that dream is not easy.

โ€ŽFinancial problems remain one of Maria's biggest challenges. There are times when her allowance is not enough for her boarding house and food, forcing her to carefully stretch whatever money she has.

โ€ŽEven traveling between the island and school has been a challenge. Their pump boat is sometimes used by her family for fishing, leaving Maria to find another way back to school.

โ€ŽYet, despite the difficulties, Maria has found people who make her journey lighter.

โ€ŽHer friends, classmates, and teachers have helped her whenever she struggles. More importantly, they have made her feel that being from an island does not make her different.

โ€ŽFor Maria, belonging gives her another reason to keep moving forward.

โ€ŽShe hopes to become the first among her siblings to finish her education, turning her family's sacrifices into something meaningful.

โ€ŽHer story is not only about being a student from an island. It is about a young woman who continues to dream despite losing her father, facing financial struggles, and traveling between home and school just to pursue her education.

โ€ŽHer journey proves that a person's background does not define the size of their dreams.

โ€ŽFrom the shores of Malalison to the classrooms of Tibiao, Maria continues to walk forward with the hopes of her family in her heart. She carries the sacrifices of her mother and brother, the memory of her father, and the dream of one day becoming someone who can give back.

โ€ŽShe may come from an island. She may have less than others. She may face challenges that many people do not see. But she keeps going.
