As students, we have the power and the responsibility to stay informed about issues that affect our environment, our communities, and our future.

Pax Silica is a US-led global initiative meant to secure supply chains for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced computer chips. While supporters point to benefits like high-paying tech jobs and stronger alliances with other nations, as students, we need to look closer and think about the big risks involved.

The hidden costs of this deal bring real danger to our local resources and communities. Expanding these tech industries threatens to push indigenous peoples and local families off their ancestral lands. On top of that, running huge AI data centers and making microchips takes massive amounts of electricity and millions of gallons of water, leading to deforestation, heavy pollution, and severe strain on our natural environment.

Real progress shouldn't mean losing our natural resources or risking people's homes. True innovation should help our country grow without hurting our environment or leaving vulnerable communities behind. It's our country and our future, and we need to use our voices to stand up for sustainable and responsible development.

The STEM Organization participated in the program organized by the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) which was the ๐—ž๐—”๐—ง๐—œ๐—ฃ๐—จ๐—ก๐—”๐—ก ๐—™๐—ข๐—ฅ๐— ๐—”๐—ง๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก ๐—ฃ๐—ฅ๐—ข๐—š๐—ฅ๐—”๐—  held on July 11, 2026.

The youth leaders and guest speakers take an active participation despite of the bad weather. It shows their willingness and commitment to serve and learn no matter what hindrances may come. The speakers also shared meaningful and informative insights about leadership which touches the hearts and minds of the aspiring young leaders with learnings and realizations. There are also activities where youth given a turning point to showcase their creativity and skills by expressing their knowledge and awareness with the community where they belong to. Moreover, the participants were expected to learn the importance of good governance in sustaining a better life and community.

May the lessons learned from the discussions do not just stay on the four corners of the room, but apply it to shape young leaders, individuals, and make a better place.
