QUEZON CITY โ In a decisive step toward a long-awaited milestone for tertiary education in Tayabas City, the newly appointed President and Administrator of the Colegio de la Ciudad de Tayabas (CCT), Dr. Farley L. Abrigo, paid separate courtesy calls on top officials of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on September 7, 2026.
Dr. Abrigo, who officially assumed office on August 3, 2026, met with CHED Region IV-A Director Dr. Rogelio T. Galera Jr. and CHED Office of Institutional Quality Assurance and Governance (OIQAG) Director Dr. Lora L. Yusi. The meetings centered on the formal submission of CCTโs full compliance documents for its application for Institutional Recognition.
The submission marks the culmination of meticulous work and close coordination between the college administration and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tayabas City, under the leadership of City Mayor Anthony "Kuya Piwa" Lim and the Sangguniang Panlungsod, to fully address all previously noted deficiencies and meet every standard set by CHED.

Institutional Recognition from CHED is a critical hurdle for CCT. Once granted, the local college will be officially eligible for key national subsidies, including the Free Higher Education program under Republic Act No. 10931, otherwise known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act. This will ensure that qualified Tayabasins can access quality tertiary education with free tuition and comprehensive financial assistance.
Both Directors Galera and Yusi received the documents and commended the persistent and proactive efforts of the new CCT administration to elevate its institutional and academic standards.
The compliance documents will now undergo final evaluation by the technical committees of CHED Region IV-A and OIQAG before being endorsed to the CHED Commission en Banc for a definitive decision.
