, October 14, 1893, General Calixto Duque was born Vintar, Ilocos Norte. From the fertile lands of Vintar, Duque rose as one of the Philippines' most revered military leaders - General Duque's life was a testament to unwavering patriotism, battlefield brilliance, and moral leadership.

🎖️ WWII Hero of Bessang Pass: As Chief of Operations for USAFIP-NL, Duque masterminded the campaign that broke Japanese defenses in Northern Luzon, leading to General Yamash*ta’s surrender. His strategic genius helped liberate the Philippines from occupation.

🛡️ Anti-Corruption Crusader: As Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces (1951–1953), Duque personally investigated abuses, dismissed corrupt officers, and upheld command responsibility - restoring integrity to a post-war military in need of reform.

🌱 A Gentle Warrior: Despite his battlefield grit, Duque was a devoted father and gardener. His daughter described him as planting "the sweetest tropical fruit trees" - a metaphor for how he nurtured both family and country.

📚 His memoir, Soldiers as Guerillas, captures the grit and grace of Filipino resistance fighters. And true to his humility, he wrote: "Out of prudence, he shall not talk about himself. Let others speak of him."

Let us honor General Duque's legacy - not just as a soldier, but as a principled leader who chose service over comfort, and integrity over compromise.
