On January 23, 2026, the team successfully turned over the design and structural analysis to the Municipal Government, formally received by the Municipal Engineer, Engr. Teodoro Cabanes.
This extension project entailed the development of a flood-resilient creek and bridge infrastructure tailored for the community of Barangay San Jose in Gerona, Tarlac. This area was identified through needs assessment as highly susceptible to seasonal flooding.
The identified vulnerabilitiesโparticularly the inadequate capacity of the existing creek and the obsolete bridge structureโadversely impacted residents, farmers, and daily commuters, resulting in property damage, agricultural losses, and restricted mobility. The scope of the project included site reconnaissance, watershed delineation using QGIS, hydrologic and hydraulic simulation utilizing HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS, and the design of reinforced concrete channels and a structurally optimized bridge. These were developed in accordance with the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) 2015 and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) standards. The approach adopted a simulation-based methodology that integrated both hydrologic and hydrodynamic analyses to ensure infrastructure resilience under various flood return periods.
