Name and History
During the early days, Pagaspas was called the barrio of Baloc-Baloc because of a legendary tale. Children of those days used to go to town to attend their primary education. Because of its proximity to the town proper more pupils go there to enroll. Baloc-baloc was divided into two sectors, south and north. School children from the north sector went to Tanauan primary school while on the south sector to Sto. Because of the children’s inconvenience, the barrio folks did their best to solve the problem. In 1968, a class of grade one pupils was opened under the tutorship of Miss Aurea E. It was housed temporarily at the barrio chapel. People of the barangay sought the help of some civic-spirited citizens. In 1970, a man from Balele, Tanauan City donated a 500 sq m lot which was used as a school site. Pagaspas, an elite Tanauaeno, and from that time on Balaoc-baloc was changed to Pagaspas in honor of him. Then in the same year, the Marcos Type Building was erected. This was the building used by Grades I to IV. From then on, the enrolment increased having the south and north sectors joint into one and so more pupils came. It became a complete elementary school in 1974 with six teachers including the school head Mrs. Aurea M. Ortilla. The first teachers were Mrs. Maria Tolentino, a resident of Sala Tanauan city teaching Grade I, Mrs. Maria Clutario teaching Grade II, Mrs Aurea Ortilla for Grade III, Mrs. Ester Recinto for Grade IV, Mrs. Ligaya Javier for Grade V nd Mr. Alvaro Silva for Grade VI. In 1975, the Bagong Lipunan was built. This gave more convenience to the pupils and the teachers as well. Pupils from Grades IV to VI used this building for their classroom. In 1985, the ESP Building was built. It was also a three-room building where Grades I to III pupils transferred here. It was under Mr. Nicanor P. Dimaculangan as TIC. In 1990, another Multi-Purpose Building was built and used as H.E room. In 1995, FVR Building was erected wherein the Administration Building was housed, Mrs. Lourdes Onate as TIC. In 1997, another FVR building was erected. The grade six pupils were housed here. Another classroom founded in 1998 funded by municipal government under Mayor Fred C. Corona. School fencing were also erected during the time of Mrs. Lourdes Onate. Her designation as head of school was reclassified to Principal before she retired in 2006. Cayetana Magpantay became the Principal of the school in 2006 till 2011. In her time fencing was completed. Improvement of drainage system and concreting pathways were also accomplished. Marcos type building, the first building erected was demolished and construction of gymnasium was attained. These were the reasons why the school became a candidate for Brigada Eskwela for two consecutive years. The Mini Band was also organized and it took two years to establish and maintain its sustainability. But due to financial constraints, the mini band was not active anymore. At present the school was under the tutelage of Mrs Amelia G. Refran, an alumni of this school on November 4, 2011. Programs and projects are being implemented and visioning the progress and development of the school.
