The conference commenced with the registration of participants, followed by an opening prayer led by Ms. Rhea Permejo, Psychology Program Chair of LCC Biรฑan. The gathering was formally opened through the singing of the National Anthem and welcome remarks delivered by Sr. Diosie T. Tanca-ag, OSA, College President of LCC Tanauan.

Delivering the inspirational message, Sr. Joan Brigida Corazon S. Infante, OSA, ASOLC Vicar General/Councilor on Apostolate and ASAS Superintendent, reaffirmed the Augustinian educational philosophy that โ€œthe heart of education is the education of the heart.โ€ She emphasized that as institutions pursue internationalization and global engagement, they must remain committed to forming students whose intellectual growth is matched by the development of character, compassion, and a genuine concern for others.

The conference's keynote address was delivered by Dr. Rogelio T. Galera Jr., Regional Director of CHED Region IV-A, who discussed the topic โ€œAdvancing Internationalization through COIL in Philippine Higher Education.โ€ His presentation underscored the significance of collaborative online learning in strengthening international partnerships, enhancing intercultural competencies, and expanding learning opportunities for Filipino students and educators.

Following a cultural presentation showcasing local heritage and talents, the conference proceeded to its first plenary session. Dr. Christine Nabor Ferrer, Director of CHED-IAS, delivered a comprehensive discussion on โ€œGlobal Perspectives on COIL: Building Sustainable International Academic Collaboration.โ€ Her presentation explored best practices and strategies for sustaining meaningful international academic partnerships in an increasingly digital educational landscape.

The morning session concluded with an open forum, allowing participants to engage directly with the speaker, followed by the awarding of certificates.

In the afternoon, Dr. Alona Cabrera, External Affairs and Linkages Director of LCC Tanauan and LCC Biรฑan, introduced the second plenary speaker, Dr. Polly Barr, Guest Lecturer from the University of Bristol. Dr. Barr shared valuable insights through her presentation, โ€œCOIL from European Higher Education Perspectives,โ€ offering participants a broader understanding of how COIL initiatives are implemented across European institutions and how these practices can inform future collaborations with Philippine colleges and universities.

Another open forum and certificate awarding followed, providing attendees the opportunity to exchange ideas and reflect on the topics discussed.

One of the conference highlights was the Showcasing of Student Experiences in COIL, featuring selected student participants from LCC Tanauan and LCC Biรฑan. Through their testimonies, students shared how international virtual collaborations enriched their academic learning, cultural awareness, and communication skills, demonstrating the transformative impact of COIL on student development.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Sr. Eden L. Gicana, OSA, College President of LCC Biรฑan, who expressed gratitude to the speakers, participants, partner institutions, and organizing committees for their support in making the conference a success.

The successful conduct of the 1st International COIL Conference 2026 marked a significant milestone for LCC Tanauan and LCC Biรฑan as they continue to champion global learning initiatives and strengthen international academic partnerships. The conference reaffirmed both institutions' commitment to nurturing globally competent graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills, and intercultural understanding necessary to thrive in the 21st-century educational and professional landscape.
