For a research to be valid, there is a need to have REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLES not BIASED SAMPLES.

SAMPLING BIAS
- occurs when some members of a population are systematically more likely to be included in a sample than others

- to avoid this, probability sampling methods like simple random sampling, systematic sampling, stratified random sampling, cluster sampling methods should be done

- note that in some studies especially in medical field, unbiased sampling is not feasible because of small population size
