TALISAY CITY, Negros Occidental โ The Department of Education- Negros Island Region (DepEd-NIR) officially launched the 2026 Regional Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off Program today, rallying education stakeholders to prepare public schools for the upcoming academic year.
The kick-off was hosted by the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Talisay City, marking its milestone debut as the newest schools division office in the newly established DepEd Negros Island Region (NIR).
DepEd Undersecretary and Chief of Staff, Atty. Fatima Lipp D. Panontongan, served as the the eventโs keynote speaker.
In her address, Usec. Panontongan emphasized the active efforts of the Department of Education under the leadership of Secretary Sonny Angara and backed by the administration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., to uplift the country's basic education system.
Among the key national initiatives she highlighted were the institutionalization of the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program to address learning gaps, alongside the aggressive hiring of additional teachers and non-teaching personnel to support educators and ease administrative burdens.
Usec. Panontongan further lauded the local community, stating that the success of these programs relies heavily on the collective strength of grassroots partners.
She also praised how each and every stakeholderโfrom local government units to private volunteersโdirectly contributes to the holistic development of the learners.
The kick-off program featured a multi-venue itinerary, beginning with a press conference and early morning awareness motorcade from Don Simplicio Lizares Elementary School to the main program venue at Talisay Hope GK Sibol Elementary School.
The morning activities also highlighted community-driven initiatives, including a ceremonial plot planting activity and a walkthrough of the showcase gallery.
Key education and local government leaders showed strong convergence during the event, including DepEd NIR Regional Director Dr. Ramir B. Uytico, CESO III, and Talisay City Mayor Hon. Atty. Maria Rowena G. Lopez-Lizares.

Processing times remained fast and efficient despite the busy campus, thanks to clear instructions and the assistance of faculty and student volunteers. The afternoon was packed with community engagement, resource mobilization, and a shared commitment to education.
Adhering to the theme "Bayanihan sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman," school administrators, teachers, parents, and local officials gathered in the kick-off ceremony signaling a week of intensive school preparation.
A major highlight of the event was the official Launching of the Numeracy and Literacy School Banner Programs led by the respective coordinators, Mr. Gilbert Sampane and Mr. Jayson Relos, emphasizing that school preparation goes hand-in-hand with student academic readiness.
Local government units (LGUs), in the person of Hon. Royet Montibon and Brgy. Kagawad Arlene Joy Rotelo, PTA officials, and community partners then took the stage to deliver messages of solidarity and support.
To solidify this partnership, stakeholders including Hon. Kagawad Arlene Joy Rotelo, and the Sangguniang Kabataan Council headed by Hon. SK Chairperson Royet Montibon participated in a symbolic Signing of the Pledge of Commitment, followed by the formal turnover of donations and support assistance to the school administration.
The formal launching of the 2026 Brigada Eskwela was marked by an enthusiastic ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Volunteers immediately transitioned into action, initiating school clean-up and repair activities alongside tree planting and updates to the school's Gulayan sa Paaralan gardens.
The event concluded with an orderly closing program, which included the acknowledgment of participants, a closing message, and a photo documentation session to capture the day's milestones.
With successfully enrolled Lizarians and a freshly energized volunteer workforce in day one, DAALMHS has set a colorful, collaborative tone for the rest of the preparation week.

El Niรฑo is developing in the Pacific Ocean ๐ณ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐๐๐ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐๐๐น๐ ๐ฒ๐
๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ, now likely to emerge next month, according to the newly released update from NOAA Climate Prediction Center.
The latest forecast also raises the possibility that it could intensify into a rare and historically powerful โSuperโ (Very Strong) El Niรฑo by end of 2026.
For the Philippines, this developing El Niรฑo could trigger a more intense season by June-July before we shift into drier conditions as early as August or September.
The "peak" effects of this El Niรฑo will likely be from January to June 2027, marked by severe drought and extreme heat, which could trigger widespread water and electricity shortage during the Tag-init Season.
