Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students of Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School (RBLMHS) secured 1st Runner-up against 14 schools during the University of Saint LaSalle (USLS) Math and Science Quiz Bowl 2026 held on Feb. 13 at USLS Bacolod.
Among the winners are Jan Mark R. Ponte, Harlene Joy O. Serdevilla, and Jon Gabrielle P. Taclobos; 11 STEM-Leibniz, who claimed the title under the guidance of their coaches Angelyn T. Santos and Jomar C. Amar.
"Winning felt very surreal. We are only Grade 11 students, and we managed to conquer the quiz bee by winning 1st runner-up, especially in the Team Category. [We] had a very nice fight because [the] three of us were leading," Ponte stated.
He added that he was thankful for their coaches' trust and the support of their classmates.
On the other hand, Santos, one of their coaches, stated that she is incredibly proud of them and the whole performance, including the review sessions and prior contest experiences, which reflected their deep dedication, intelligence, and teamwork.
"I always tell them that every review question and every lesson delivered mattered, and truly, none of their efforts were put in vain. Anyway, regardless of the results, they were already winners in my eyes," she added.
Bacolod Tay Tung High School Inc. emerged victorious as the champion, followed by RBLMHS as 1st runner-up and Negros Occidental National Science High School (NONSHS) as 2nd runner-up.
USLS Bacolodโs Engineering Department organized the event to highlight studentsโ abilities and enthusiasm in Science and Mathematics through academic contests.
