PNHS Ă— CNU: The First of Many Intellectual Batlles

RASON, Pooc National High School’s debate organization, recently hosted a short debate competition with debaters from Cebu Normal University (CNU). In line with the celebration of Women’s Month, the debate centred on women’s rights, highlighting the importance of equality, empowerment, and the freedom to express one’s voice.

More than a contest of arguments, the event celebrated the power of ideas, critical thinking, and respectful discourse. Debate allows students to express their thoughts with clarity and confidence while also learning to listen, analyze, and understand different perspectives.

The program was hosted by Carlene Sojor and Kiara Eleccion, with Daniel Thurman Darroca serving as adjudicator. Representing CNU were Gerrah B. Pimentel, John Librea, and Xiel Jan B. Gerasta, while Pooc National High School was represented by Queen Natalie Villahermosa, Harvey Basalo, and Angel Echavez.

After delivering a detailed critique and evaluating the arguments presented, the adjudicator declared the CNU team the winner. Certificates of recognition were later awarded to the participants and adjudicator by the RASON coach herself Ma’am Blesilda B. Pimentel.

Despite the result, both teams showed dedication, preparation, and the courage to stand before an audience and express their ideas with respect. The event served as a reminder that progress begins when people are given the opportunity to speak and be heard.

Through meaningful discussions and insightful arguments, the debate highlighted the value of intellectual discourse, equality, and the power of using one’s voice—not only during Women’s Month, but every day.

JS Prom 2026: Gabi ng Liwanag at Mahika
‎
