What's in the bag? Its R2E2 mango. Sorry, no connection to R2D2 π
R2E2 is a mid-season variety with large, highly colored fruit. It was selected in 1982 by Ian Bally, Ross Wright and Peter Beal as a seedling progeny of the Florida variety Kent, and takes its name from the row and position, "Row 2 Experiment 2" in the field of the original tree at the departmentΒ΄s Bowen Research Facility.
Released for commercial production in 1991, R2E2 has gained wide acceptance throughout all mango-growing regions in Australia and is the third most popular variety grown. R2E2 has a long shelf life and is sought after on the export market.
The tree grows extremely fast in the first few years after planting. Tree vigor slows considerably when the tree reaches the mature bearing stage at 4-5 years and is regularly bearing fruit. Six-year-old trees can reach 6 m and higher, and have a canopy diameter of 5 m. But take note that R2E2 is a mango variety that will likely not bear fruit if not propagated as grafted trees.

The 'Chok Anan' mango, sometimes spelled Chocanon, is a sweet mango from Thailand, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. It has an oval shape and tapered tips. The ripe fruit and flesh are light yellow and have a sweet taste. Chok Anan is also called a "honey mango."
Chok Anan is also known as the Miracle Mango, because it often fruits twice a year (fruiting in the summer, and then gives way to another crop in the winter time).

This mango variety does not taste too sour unlike the Carabao mango. Because of its thick skin, it does not spoil easily and it is resistant to pests and diseases.
My family loves using this mango for ensalada because of its crunchy texture that does not soften easily.

The start of year 2020 was a very hard time for our business. We were one of the top two places that was hit hard by the Taal Volcano eruption. We had to evacuate and lived away from our homes for nearly two months. Our business was devastated by the rain combined with ash-fall. Seeing our plants getting covered in gray-mud was the scariest horror scene we had endure to watch. We felt hopeless.
Only a week after we were allowed to return home, lock-down were enforced to prevent the spread of covid-19.
These challenges we faced taught us to pray and pray even harder each passing day. We prayed for a new start, for a new beginning...

Miracle fruit (Sysepalum ducificum)
This fruit is tasteless, but they have a sweet effect on sour foods. Limes, lemons, and even vinegar, taste sweet if they are eaten after a Miracle fruit. This sensation occurs, because an active glycoprotein molecule called, miraculin, attaches to the taste buds and alters the sweet receptors on the tongue and changes sour flavors to sweet flavors. This flavor alteration can last from five to thirty minutes.
Health Benefits
Good for Diabetics. Weight loss. Improves well-being. Effective food enhancer. Changes the horrible taste of certain medicines and metallic taste side-effects of radiations after undergoing chemotherapy.
