Pagpasidungog sa Kinabuhi ug Buhat ni Resil B. Mojares
Some lives are remembered in stories. Others become part of the stories we continue to tell.
The Cebuano literary and cultural community gathered at the Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels to remember National Artist for Literature Resil B. Mojares last September 11, through the words he left behind, the memories he shared, and the lives he touched along the way.
Excerpts from his writings brought his voice back into the room, while friends, colleagues, students, and fellow writers and scholars offered recollections of the man behind the works: the artist and critic, historian, mentor and educator, and journalist whose curiosity was always directed toward the stories that deserved to be heard.
In readings, music, and personal tributes, the evening became more than a remembrance of a National Artist. It was a gathering of those who had known him, learned from him, and carried something of his work with them.
For a life devoted to asking questions, looking closer, and giving words to the stories of his people, the best tribute may be to keep reading, remembering, and telling.
The tribute was organized by the Mojares Family, the University of the Philippines Cebu, and the University of San Carlos–Cebuano Studies Center.
