Bags of Hope and Culture: City Tribal Council Supports IP Learners of Pagsabangan Elementary School
August 20, 2026- Indigenous Peoples (IP) learners of Pagsabangan Elementary School received school bags from the City Tribal Council in a simple turnover and distribution ceremony aimed at supporting their educational needs and strengthening their connection to their cultural heritage.
The school bags were turned over by Datu Erick I. Perez, Tagum City Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR), who extended the City Tribal Council’s support to the IP learners of the school.
During the occasion, School Principal Dr. Renato O. Mag-aso expressed his appreciation for the assistance and reminded the learners of their responsibility to value and preserve their Indigenous identity and culture.
“In return for the bags given by the City Tribal Council, I urge you to do your best to revive and preserve the slowly fading culture of our Indigenous people,” Dr. Mag-aso said.
Also present during the occasion was Bia Jessica P. Ado, Barangay Tribal Chieftain of Pagsabangan and, at the same time, the Tagum City Tribal Chieftain, who joined the school community in supporting the welfare and development of the IP learners.
The simple turnover ceremony and distribution of bags was facilitated by the school’s IPEd Coordinator, Ma’am Gresan I. Sibio, who ensured the smooth conduct of the activity.
Pagsabangan Elementary School expressed its sincere gratitude to Datu Erick I. Perez, the City Tribal Council, and the Indigenous leadership of Pagsabangan for their continued support to IP education. The initiative not only provided much-needed school supplies but also served as a reminder that education and cultural preservation must go hand in hand.
Through the collective efforts of the school, Indigenous leaders, parents, and the community, Pagsabangan Elementary School continues to nurture learners who are proud of their identity, culture, and heritage.
