𝐀 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭

In the high-stakes world of competitive journalism, where the clatter of keyboards echoes like gunfire, I walked in with a singular, ironclad obsession in my writing to reign as champion.

To me, the craft wasn't just about storytelling. Rather, it was about inspiring others by my own story of strength. I transformed my mind into a vault, memorizing staggering lists of facts, punchy titles, evocative leads, and sharp quotes.

These were my consistent ways to own the spotlight in the Division and Regional Schools Press Conferences.

I wanted to be an unstoppable force of information, ready to deploy the perfect detail and the most accurate one.

Behind this drive was a mentor whose presence is always impactful. My coach, an amazing woman, perpetually buried under her own mountain of deadlines due to her multiple roles, never fail to spare time for me.

Yes, her hurried whispers of wisdom became the bedrock of my style. She taught me that while facts provide the skeleton, it is the soul of the writer that creates the breath.

Her lessons were brief, but they were etched into my memory, guiding my hand when the pressure reached a boiling point.

I can’t deny the heightened pressure, not by the expectations laid on my back but because of my lavish desire to be on top.

This struggle once led me to a dark place.

After my writing performance, I deemed imperfect, I felt totally crushed by the gap between my ambitions and my output. Waiting for the awarding day is prolonging my agony.

Finally, as the dust settled and the accolades began to arrive, the fog of self-doubt lifted. I looked at the victory before me and simply allowed myself to feel the weight of the silver, even if originally I had really dreamed of gold.

I realized that, after all, this is still a podium finish.

Today, I don't just hold the title; I embrace the joy of the win, fueled by the knowledge that I have truly earned my place at the top.

Through the ink and the guidance of my dedicated and loving coach, I am so grateful that I am now part of the history of the 2026 National Schools Press Conference, waving the banner of Region XI, as the Top 2 Best Feature Writer in the country.

Two Leaders, One Vision: Excellence Continues

Today, May 5, 2026, a meaningful gathering filled with gratitude and hope marked a significant leadership transition at Magugpo Pilot Central Elementary School, as the teachers honored the dedicated service of outgoing OIC School Principal and PSDS, Ma’am Grace Sorrosa, while warmly welcoming the incoming School Principal III, Ma’am Sheila Grace Barbaso.

Despite the limited space for the meantime, as the school gymnasium is currently under construction, the teachers led by the MPCESTA officers initiated to hold a simple yet meaningful gathering at the MPCES Media Center. The intimate setting reflected the unity and resourcefulness of the school community in making the event memorable and heartfelt.

The event celebrated not only a change in leadership but also a year of committed service and strong guidance from Ma’am Sorrosa, whose leadership greatly benefited teachers, learners, and the entire MPCES community. Under her stewardship, the school strengthened its programs, fostered collaboration, and upheld a culture of excellence and resilience.

In her farewell message, Ma’am Sorrosa expressed heartfelt gratitude to the teachers and PTA officers, emphasizing that the school’s achievements were the result of unity and shared dedication. “My journey here at MPCES as your OIC Principal and at the same time your PSDS has been truly meaningful and worthwhile. Beyond collaborating with all of you, dear teachers, I felt a genuine sense of love and belonging, as what started as professional c***ections has grown into friendships—and now, a family. Each of you will always remain close to my heart. This experience has reaffirmed my belief that true leadership lies in empowering others and working hand in hand toward a shared vision and common goal,” Ma’am Sorrosa expressed.

As one chapter closed, another began with the introduction of Ma’am Sheila Grace Barbaso, who now assumes the responsibility of continuing the school’s legacy of success. In her response message, Ma’am Barbaso expressed sincere appreciation for the warm welcome and recognized the strong foundation laid by her predecessor. “I am deeply honored to be entrusted with this responsibility. Building on the solid foundation established before me, I commit to sustaining and further enhancing our school’s achievements through collaboration, innovation, and shared leadership. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence and ensure that our school remains progressive, resilient, and united,” Ma’am Barbaso stated.

Though they may bring different leadership styles, both leaders stand united in their vision for a progressive, resilient, and united school community striving for excellence. The transition symbolized continuity, trust, and a shared mission ensuring that MPCES remains a beacon of quality education and strong leadership.

As the gathering concluded, one message resonated clearly among all: “Leadership may change, but the vision of excellence continues”

Thank you so much Ma'am Grace Sorrosa for your leadership and guidance and Welcome Ma'am Sheila Grace Barbaso, our new School Principal!
